Main Tasks and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Art Director, the successful candidate will be in charge of rigging, skinning and controlling animation data flow on various productions and creating high-quality content with the tools and assets provided. Specific tasks include:
Setting up complex vehicle rigs with secondary dynamics animation, rigging realistic human characters and possibly also environmental effects
· Working with animators to design motion controls
· Developing and maintaining character motion and deformation systems
· Developing secondary dynamics systems
· Getting involved in R&D and tool building to improve the animation pipeline
· Possibly writing utility scripts and programs to streamline the rigging setup process
Requirements
- In-depth knowledge of 3ds Max (character studio/CATs) and MotionBuilder
- Preferably at least 3 years’ experience in a professional production environment
- Experience in character/vehicle custom rig setup
- Experience writing scripts and automating rigging processes (Python/MAXScript)
- A good understanding of 3D FK/IK skeletal animation systems for both control and deformation of 3D characters (stylised and realistic)
- Experience with secondary animation systems (including clothing/hair simulation) is preferred
- A good eye for anatomical detail and a firm understanding of the processes and requirements of both modelling and animation
- Ability to document and clearly explain rigging systems and processes to other team members
- Organized, efficient and able to work without supervision
- Able to work under pressure
- Able to communicate in French or English
