Microsoft’s Good Science Studio is at the forefront of developing new interactive entertainment experiences that appeal to all members of the family across all devices, led from the living room, powered by the cloud. To deliver on this vision, we are building a team to create experiences that blur the line between traditional linear video content and interactive Kinect experiences.
We are looking for an experienced creative individual who can help us bring Microsoft’s next big IP to life. This role is responsible in helping create new technology as well as delivering a platform and tool set that can be used to deliver multiple entertainment products from high profile IP partners in a flexible, rapid, and low cost way. This designer will be on the front lines of emerging technologies and experiences with business critical partners.
Reporting to the lead designer, the Game Designer is focused on developing flexible and extensible high quality experiences, processes, and tools that innovate and expand the interactive Kinect TV space. This is a pioneering and partnering with an advanced technology team to develop technology solutions, tools, and game features & experiences. This position is a rare opportunity to develop the core technology used to create a brand new form of interactive entertainment.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operate as a game designer for the team, creating new interactive TV scenarios and transmedia experiences
Collaborate with and other designers, artists, and programmers to deliver products, new experiences, tools, and features
Conceptualize, create, and maintain detailed game design documentation throughout the project cycle
Balance gameplay to ensure products and features are accessible, intuitive, and receive critical and commercial success
Represent and evangelize product, features, and tools within and outside the organization
Consult on a regular basis with lead game designer to align expectations and deliverables
Anticipate threats to quality and innovation, and work effectively with team leadership to mitigate
Have an open-minded approach to design and display the ability to challenge convention
Work closely with other disciplines including art, engineering, production, and audio
Multitask between projects fluidly
REQUIREMENTS:
3+ years of software and game design experience, ideally shipping multiple titles on Xbox 360
Demonstrated ability to hold and communicate a strong creative vision while keeping the design vision agile
Experience with game engines such as Unity and Unreal
Experience partnering with technology, art, and media leaders to deliver innovative products and features
Efficient in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
Proven hands-on game design and understanding of design sciences including design deconstruction and prioritization
Passion for console and motion gaming and entertainment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Self-motivated and drive for excellence
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with the TV and Film industry is a plus!
Prior work exploring and innovating new IP, genres, and product experiences
Prior professional or hobbyist development experience with Kinect and related technologies
Experience with linear and branched video technologies, narrative design, and experiences
Knowledge in natural and voice user interfaces and UX design
