Microsoft Studio Online Services service engineering team, which is part of Microsoft Studios, is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to contribute on a high performance service engineering team deploying online gaming services and other solutions for Microsoft Studios
We are seeking a candidate that thrives on a challenge and can maintain composure while solving mission critical issues. Microsoft Studio Online Services provides the opportunity to experience and manage the industries latest and most exciting online gaming technology. Candidates must work well both independently and within a team, have excellent communication skills, and demonstrate strong troubleshooting skills all while experiencing the satisfaction of managing multiple online services
This position will contribute directly in establishing (Microsoft Studio Online Services) as an industry-leading expert in online gaming services. You will influence critical application design and implementation decisions for large scale international services, and evolve the performance and availability of the data tier for these services. This role works closely and consults with the product development and test teams, during both pre-release and post-launch product cycles to improve operational supportability of released products. You will provide technical support for the implementation, integration, and evolution of complex data system architectures as well as consult in the design of systems architecture, support and monitoring strategies, implementation, server management and Quick Fix Engineering (QFE) tactics. You will provide systems statistical trending and analysis for server capacity modeling and threshold testing. You will work with other team members to troubleshoot complex support issues, identify root causes and develop mitigation options.
Job responsibilities include but not limited to the following:
Consult with product development teams to provide guidance on application operability, manageability, security, performance and scalability.
Prepare design proposals for high performance, highly scalable n-tier application architectures and meet with customers to evangelize design proposals.
Develop service monitoring strategy, automation and tooling.
Create detailed design documentation for implementation and oversee the successful and timely deployment of solutions.
Establish capacity planning, performance monitoring and event management standards for n-tier application implementations.
Deploy relevant applications in production and pre-production environments.
Provide mentorship and training to Jr. engineers
Provide technical expertise to resolution of service interrupting incidents and problems.
Build monitoring alerts, counters and thresholds.
Qualifications include:
Track record of successfully designing and supporting large scale, geo-distributed, high availability enterprise systems
5+ years of software industry experience, preferably in the consumer Internet space.
Understanding of online services, network architecture, and storage technologies.
Deep understanding of multi-tier architectures and operational fundamentals associated with managing
Strong System Engineering & Administrative skills with MS server products required including and not limited to; Windows 2008, Hyper-V, SQL 2008, IIS 7.0 & SharePoint 2010.
Strong scripting/coding skills (C#, PERL, VBS, PowerShell)
5+ years’ experience in Active Directory, XML, .Net Framework, TCP/IP protocols, security hardening procedures, and Windows/IIS/SQL Server
5+ years of strong technical skills with MS products required including Windows 2003/2008, SQL2005/2008 and IIS.
Strong experience with monitoring tools (SCOM, Sitescope, Keynote or Gomez)
2+ years’ experience in working with T-SQL, Stored Procedures with advanced ability to analyze for performance and efficiency.
Experience in program or project management for large scale software deployments built on Microsoft platforms a definite plus
2+ years’ experience in specifying high performance storage requirements utilizing EMC SANs.
2+ years’ experience in providing high level production support in a 24x7 operations environment.
2+ years’ experience with SQL security, high availability technologies, and various database technologies such as SQL engine, Replication, Log Shipping, Mirroring, SSIS/DTS, SSAS and SSRS.
Solid troubleshooting experience. Preferably experience troubleshooting SQL Server in a diverse, production environment.
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent experience is required.
