This illustration is entitled "Mononofu" which means warrior in ancient term in Japanese. I'm trying to recreate a female Samurai warrior as Samurais are often male. This piece is totally painted in photoshop. Here I did extra touches with the splashes onto the plain background to give a stronger sense of feel to the character. Comments and critiques are most welcome. Thank you.

Hm. The design of the armor looks very western with an eastern styling to it, I think. The pauldrons and the guards at her hips especially, as they look rather stiff, whereas samurai armor was woven together pieces of lacquered steel designed to flex to deflect blows.

also the skimpyness of the armor is decidedly western as well - I'd not imagine a samurai going into battle so poorly armored~

That aside I do like it - it's a very good piece, and you capture the Asian facial structure very well. The armor is very interesting to look at and conceptually would work very well in a fantasy setting.
