Great work! That indistinct background makes him appear as from smoke / darkness. Lovely!
Thanks Nicolay, I can't claim that was intentional, but I like that idea. He's in the dark because the the moment here is when the Fellowship is in Moria. Gandalf can't decide the right passage way to take, so they decide to rest in the guardroom with the well. Him lighting his pipe is the last thing that Pippin sees before he falls asleep.
