When designing something like this, do you usually do several iterations so that you can change parts, design, etc? I am working with Blender and working on my first full model. I just did a human ear, saved it, and then made different ones using that same base mesh. Found it helps in having to do the whole thing over again and again.
I think mechanical stuff can be done like this.
