Lava Stinger / Magma Scorpion

This was inspired by the film Clash of the Titans", particularly to giant scorpions that they encounter. I conceptualized adding magma cracks as texture to add style.

This scorpion was modeled in AutoDesk Maya 2011. A series of extrusions and vertext manipulations. It has no subdivs but it is a very smooth polygon. The UV mapping is automatic except for the tail which really needs cylindrical mappings.

The Rendering software i used was Vray. I added up normal Vray Sun and Sky, henced rendered as PNG so it's easy to erase. I rendered all the elements at once, not in layers, that's why i have a hard time in compositing the scorpion to the magma / lava- textured plane. (tweeked to have curves) and if you are going to look at the spot hole, it has a different texture.
I dragged the file to photoshop and duplicated to soft light layer. it darkens and then I flattened, that way, i can apply a new layer and use brush in order to bring up burn effects, and color-dodges. The scene is foggy, thanks to photoshop's render clouds. then colorizing it, I am able to come up with a very hot environment for my scorpion.

Please comment on how can I improve in compositing, or any part of my workflow, because I am not that as good as anyone, yet, not stopping to practice and improve my works. I would appreciate if you can give me samples, (in links) so i can have my study. Thankyou so much.
