wow..this one is awsm
Fantastic work man. I'm sure John Buscema himself would be proud :)
I can give you the best compliment I can think of for this. You smoked my entry. I love this for everything you clearly get about the character and what a great illustration using him involves. It's fantastic work just considering it as art but it is amazing as an illustration for Conan.
I also agree with everything in your comment on the character background, movies, and art. I think the recent film had strong potential artistically but it lost the soul of Conan. I think a real Conan movie doesn't pull its punches. Howard never did. Although the films with Arnold were not tightly adapted from the source I still think they did a better job in this regard. The new movie did a decent job of looking at Frazetta's work for artistic inspiration but it lost the emotional power, raw intensity, and intelligence. Everything they missed on you scored with in this illustration. Still a great pleasure to have seen this work as a fan and personally great for me to see I still need to raise the bar for my own work because of your effort.
Definitely a very big favorite from all the artwork I've encountered in the last couple of years!
Wow. Thanks, Vrykon! I'm glad you like.
Yeah I totally feel that the Milius Conan respected the material and the audience and tried to deliver a film that was a good movie first and not simply genre fan service. I groaned when I learned the director was the Pathfinder guy. No offense, Pathfinder guy.
Thumbs up bro!
Thanks, Kekai! I'm a big fan of your work. :)
Really awesome !
Thanks everyone! I love the character and remember reading the books, comics, and of course watching the Arnie movies over and over again as a child...and currently as a full grown adult...so I really wanted this piece to stand head and shoulders above anything else I've done. It's cool to think about how influential Conan is to fantasy as a whole when you stop to consider Conan's ties to Frank Frazetta. Would Frazetta have been as popular as he became without Conan and vice versa? Probably, but we'll never know. We all do know the impact Frazetta has had in the realms of fantasy art though, so I like to think of Conan in that light: A god among men. But not the new movie. He may visually resemble Conan more than Arnie, but that movie was a stinker right from the moment Mrs. Daisy's driver started his opening monologue.
