Personal work <3 Something darker after all the colorful stuff recently.

One thing that really bothers me about our culture is the way war is not just played down, but almost glorified. We're all a part of it, actually guys like us here on this site might be the main offenders. Videogames like CoD and GoW are essentially a form of pornography, and I find it honestly worrying that one of the most terrible things humanity has brought on itself is handled in a way that makes it seem attractive - this is what I tried to put into this image. I'm not sure as to what way is the best to make a point - show it clearly? But people are desensitized and might even think it's awesome, hurr hurr all the gore that's cool man. No, it's not fucking cool. So, say the opposite instead? It might be misunderstood or seen as pretentious. Hurr hurr, you just want to paint a sexy chick yourself and then afterwards say you put thought into it.

Hard to say. Perhaps I should just keep my mouth shut and just be an observer, not a commentator. It seems that until the start of the 20th century, at least painters have done that, most of the time. But wouldn't that be backing out of responsibility? I don't know. They say a picture is worth a thousand words but sometimes a point is more clearly made by using as few words as possible.

I agree with you, while it is a dark part of human nature, people are feeding off of it in a healthy way (as in not acting on thoughts but playing a game). Still, I think it's strange how I hear that in other countries violence isn't glorified or shown on tv as much as the U.S. Yet in the U.S. the media/movie industry have this hypocrisy about showing sex (what there is on the special channels that people have to pay extra for). If you ask me, I'd rather catch my nephew watching a couple screwing on tv than someone having their hand sawed off. That being said, I've seen some violent movies/shows as a kid and I'm okay but it really comes down to having adults guide you as a child and having an inner ethic/morality. Some people lack that (no matter how much they are nutured).

Great image, but I'm afraid that I don't share your point since violence is a primitive part of us as animals, it's one of our instincts, you can just look at children, I mean like really small ones, those who were not corrupted by mass media yet - they break their toys, they hit and bite everything and everyone - it's part of observation mechanism.. gore and stuff is a disgusting yet a very captivating tabu that reminds us of being mortal.. violence existed long before humans and it had it's purpose... now since we claim ourselfs to be civilized we need to find a way to sublime these instincts videogames industry is one of the ways to do that... war can't be promoted by videogames or cinema if the one who perceives the info is intelligent enough.. Whould you grab a gun and start shooting ppl after playing several hours of GTA? I assume you wouldn't since you know what physical pain and mental sufferings are. You read the books, you saw films, you talked with older ppl and you know that you wouldn't want to cause someone any injury voluntarily.. now when an obvious question rises, why are there ppl unlike you who dare to go and hurt, wound or even kill others - the answer is not videgames or smth. the answer is there development didn't go far since they were lil children I discribed before, but instead of toys in their hands now they have some more dangerous stuff.. Now give some ultra skilled CoD player an M-16 and send him to Afghanistan - he would be scared to death to point the gun at someone and push the trigger and that would probably cost him his live. It is always a matter of upbringing, and you can go and get rid of all the guns and knives in the world - these primates will still find a way to kill each other, with rocks and sticks as their ancestors did. My POV.

I agree with you. I think that we glorify war in the U.S. because it makes people money, period. As benevolent as people think our country is, it is ultimately run by corporations so it's not exactly a true democracy. Too many powerful people in the gov't who pull the wool over our eyes to benefit themselves. And even if the majority of citizens don't agree to it, the country will still go to war wherever certain big business will profit first and foremost unless we change the system. It's sad really and I agree that we should speak out as artists and as citizens if we truly care. Your stance is inspirational to me.

At the same time, however, you say that war is like pornography. Scantily clad women (which are all over these CG sites as if artists can't think outside the box), can be like pornography as well. They're so overdone as if there is no other subject matter that inspires people. I wonder why the tiny underwear in your image? Does it really help the image or message at all? Speaking from a female artist's point of view

Beautifully rendered though, your technical skills absolutely rock. I love the way you painted those wings. But I don't see the message that you described above in the image.

Technically is a great work, beautiful render, but i think it doesnt shows what you intended, completly agree with what you are saying, i think the rose being crushed should be the main atraction on this image, it doesnt matter if you disguise war as a beautiful winged girl, still is war, you should use your fame to transmit thoughts and ideas to other people, life is about helping people without wanting a reward, about being happy and in peace.
    Keep working hard man, cheers.

    Legen...wait for it... Dary.....

I think the image actually is expressing the emotions, may not be clear at first thanks to the hotty
I love how she seems ashamed and a bit sad for what she has done and is trying to hide her face using her wings...
though I assume she is actually heading for a war as I don't notice any post war effects like blood on sword or on her...

    Beautiful image.

But how does showing an attractive woman on a battlefield say that war is bad? It seems to do the opposite for me.

Love the image, I don't know that it conveyed the message that you communicated in the description (at least I didn't pick all of that up anyway) which is why I'm glad that you actually did comment to be clear about what you were wanting to get at. These types of conversations revolving around art are very important to me personally and it's refreshing to see people use art for communicating messages still. For me, I make the distinction between what's propaganda and what's not propaganda (what you, more or less label COD and GOW) largely based on how much of what can be seen is a direct reflection of what we see in our day to day reality and what percentage of the fictitious representations are a direct reflection of what most of us see in our day to day reality. As an example I see COD and GOW in two completely different boats...one connects people to there current reality in a violent way while the other is escapist fantasy.

If by "our culture" you mean "America", who almost glorifies war, then you really need to study practically every other country on the face of the planet. There is always going to be a "Top Dog", I'd rather it be the greatest, free-est, most successful, and benevolent country that has ever existed, the United States of America, than any other - which country would 'you' prefer be "on top"?

btw - Awesome painting! Love the lighting, subdued palette, and execution. Great job!
