Render of Slides new internally produced character Qev. He's a future Chav complete with mechanical runners, ideal for getting away from trouble even if your fitness is compromised by smoking 40 a day and guzzling large amounts of strong beer.

(non UK people -  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chav )

He's primarily a test for establishing a pipeline for very hi-res textures, he uses about 14X4k sets of colour/masks/bump and displacement maps.

I did the sculpting, texturing and modeling with some help from Gary Newman on the modeling front.

Damn I love this kid and his careless face, seems like technology is only a minute detail in his daily routine, remarkable job on texturing and cool design as well. Only the smoke looks a bit unnatural to me.. But overall great work! Looking forward for more. Cheers! :)

Very strong look and feel of the character! I like it a lot. I would have one remark.. The knees don`t look too flexible, you know? I mean, there is no clear indication of how the parts rotate, or which part slides above/under the others. You could have a much stronger concept if the mechanical parts (especially for the articulations) would show a very clean and clear indication of how they actually function :).

Thanks for the comment. I'm glad you like him. The joints work fine BTW, he is already rigged. The ankles stay rigid as compression and bend is handled by the foot plates, not the feet. The majority of what you see in the knee actually rotates with the shin around the circular pivots, and the elbow plates roll over each other cleanly. Aside from this though I admit the primary concern was testing out HD texturing workflows and getting a cool looking silhouette rather than a fully functioning mech design :), there are others much better at that than me anyway ;).

I think it looks really fantastic. There is only one thing, that maybe would make it better for me, his face expression is kind of too boring to watch, I rather look at the fantastic design of his clothes and mecha roller blades.

    Still really nice done,
