Artist's Comments

Here is a personnal matte-painting that I did during Christmas holiday. I took some photos with my digital camera on top of the empire state building in New York City last summer while I was at SIGGRAPH 2006 Boston, there is only 4-5 hours of driving between.

The concept of this artwork was inspired by the famous movie Bladerunner in which, you can see amazing futuristic cityscapes. I always was fascinated by huge cities with thousand of buildings everywhere.

The modeling of the ships was done by a friend of mine.

You really nailed the sky on this one. Fantastic. I love how you intensified the perspective of the cityscape using the aircraft.

Haha, I just saw the tiny thumbnail of this in someone's favourites, and I immediately reckognized the piece and thought, hey, Frederic is on here, too!

This certainly is a stunning and strong piece, which pulls the viewer in, and makes him wonder what's going on there. Love the complexity, I immediately start to explore the piece...and hey, it makes a great book cover :D
