Here's my 2nd WIP, this one shows the definitive shape I'll be using for the skull and the hands... and here's the story of my game. It is an epic medieval-like RPG; the bad guy since the beginning is an extremely powerful demon, Lord of the Dark lands (something like that) casting death and chaos upon other kingdoms and countries.
Suddenly the chaos rises dramatically and that's where the game begins. The heroes journey to defeat the demon and stop the murdering (Perhaps the entire population of a village or a castle is slain overnight) and they cross ways with a very enigmatic human character.

Somewhere in the middle of the story they reach for the Dark lands to the demon's lair just to discover almost every demon has been slain too and they reach the Dark lord's chambers just after the enigmatic charactes has ripped him apart. The enigmatic character is behind all the massive genocides and has been murdering to master his technique of damaging the mind and body through the "Soul ripping".

The heroes try to escape, but one of the heroes is ripped apart too and the others barely manage to get away.

The other half of the game is running away, hiding, leveling up, getting special magical items to protect one's soul, see the world been taken piece by piece by the ripper and finally getting to his own fortress.

The gate is made by the half-cracked skull and the hands of the Dark Lord put on a welcoming stance, as well as the bodies from the people of many of the "tastier" souls the ripper has taken.

      Let the final battle begin!

@Savi: I like very much your door with all those hands, seems very wicked!

@Amaakir: Thank you very much for the references, I'll definitely add texture to my final piece. I want to add lots and LOTS of bodies, but I don't know if I will have the time to, so I'll start getting finished something that could work for the finals thread, even if it isn't my complete vision.

-Virev: I like your start, has a lot of atmosphere

Here's my rough- envisioning a water-temple like place with trickles of water leaking through windows and doors leading to mold, and a little established wetlands right outside of the door, which will be obliterated as our adventurers advance to the imprisoned boss...

Heya I like your back story for the concept. I feel you can pull the view higher and exaggerate the perspective a little to sell the scale of the building, maybe have some windows go off the top of the frame.

just a rough sketch to hold me over till i can get in photoshop. I want to do a cellar door deep out in the woods. All chained and boarded up with tall grass growing around it. And i think ill have it lit by flashlight. (clearly the silent hill door up there inspired this as well as donnie darko ) Name: door.jpg

Hey, guys, I'm glad to finally see some more WIPs!
Weekends are not my thing, I usually have to travel and study but I try hard to be online. If you would like some extra time to finish your entry, just lemme know and I'll throw in a couple of days to the deadline.

@Virev: Nice progress! Really love how you're integrating some background story to your piece, I'm sure it'll help you solve future design problems for your illustration

@Uisolui: Great sketch, I love the perspective on this one and I'm eager to see you take it further. Be a little more bold on your color decisions, maybe add a lot more blue or greens since it's a water temple.

@Wilson38115: Great start, I'd only wish we had a closer view of the scene, there's a lot of space you are leaving black which I think you could take advantage of if you scaled the rest of the scene so we could all have a closer look at it.

@Saran: The views on all four of your sketches look awesome, I like 3 & 4 the most because of the huge space surrounding the doors, it gives such a strong sense of loneliness it makes the doors all that more intimidating!

@C0nker3: Man, I'm a hardcore Silent Hill fan Actually I'm working on a door with the same kind of influence hahaha When you go further, look for some beaten up doors from google and take some textures from those images to enrich your concept a bit more. Looking great so far!

@Dahamon: Man, that looks sooooo good! Love the dynamic view and the skull on top looks really wicked, awesome work!

Once again guys, feel free to let me know if you need more time on this, I'm just getting to know whats the right time for a challenge so I'd really love some feedback if you guys think it's too much or too little time to work on.
I'll upload my WIP as soon as I get home tonight, but great work, guys!

I really like this challenge but find the due date to be a lot closer than I originally thought! I wanted to join and was wondering if it needed to be 2d or could it be done in 3D as well? I may not finish but Ill have some sort of design soon.

its a 2d challenge, so from my understanding it is encouraged that you do it in 2d. I dont think any one will shoot you for doing something 3d though. just keep in mind there is a whole other section in the forums for 3d challenge loving artists here http://cghub.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=106

As C0nker3 kindly stated, yea this is a 2D challenge. There's a lot of 3D challenges, so go take a peek! I'm also aware, from what I've been reading, that the deadline is a bit too close, so I'm really considering giving it a few more days to encourage more people into participating, what do you guys think? Any thoughts?

Hey guys, I'm excited to join in and try this challenge out-I've never done a challenge before on CGHub :P

Anyways, here's a quick wip I worked up today. The visuals of this "game" take place in a fictional subterranean Mayan world, and the final door, the Door to Oblivion leads to the architect of the Mayan people, the Alien God. Very stereotypical, I know, but I love Mayan architecture.

@nocodename: Looking great, you'll have a great opportunity to use textures on your image, looking forward to seeing you go further with this!

@Dahamon: Man...those textures are just looking awesome, you're definitely staying true with the intention of the challenge and the fruits of your effort are already doing wonders, great work!

@Somni: Hi, Somni! I'm glad to see you participate in these challenges, I would really encourage you to try to do it as often as possible as there's a lot to gain and nothing to loose, Welcome!
As for your concept, I'm loving it a LOT. I may be off the track, but I don't think it's stereotypical at all, and find it really creative.
The designs on the walls and door are looking awesome, take a quick moment whenever you have the chance to take a hold of some nice rough, stone like textures. Duplicating your entire work in a new layer, applying the noise filter on photoshop, and erasing some parts can also help you achieve a rough like texture.

Great work, guys, keep up the good job!
