Anatomicae #23 - Back Anatomy

Due Date: March 26th, 2012, 12:00 PM EST

Returning to the original spirit of the Anatomicae Challenges, your task for this round will be to do a study of the Back anatomy of the human body in a single image. Your study may focus the back of either a man or a woman, but pay special attention to shadows and volume, we want to see some muscles here!

- We're specially aiming for a waist-up study for this one so you won't have to worry about doing full body study for the moment.

- Avoid using any kind of clothing that will get in the way.

- Try to pose your study in a way that the muscles of the back really pop up.

Here are some reference materials to get you started:

For all our Anatomicae regulars, I'd also like to introduce myself, I'm Juan Sergio (a.k.a. Amaakir) and I'll be leading the Anatomicae challenges as of now. I'm very excited to see what we can accomplish together with these challenges!

Also, remember to visit this thread in case you ever need anything or if you want to focus on a particular study for the next challenge.

Cheers!

So excited to have you Juan Sergio! Hopefully this Anatomicae will be
a bit more active on the challenges! It's exciting to face the challenges
here! Learning more anatomy to the many objects/forms we see
    everyday will help immensely!

Sure thing, I give you my word that the challenges will be without halt as soon as I'm leading it
I've got some interesting ideas for future challenges so I hope to keep Anatomicae quite busy and interesting for a long, long time

      Here's my first WIP.
Wow, this is a LOT harder than I thought. I will have to do some homework behind the muscles in the back, I'm sure that if I manage to see them as more solid objects I'll be able to flesh them out more easily.
Anyway, here's my first attempt at getting the volumes right :P
C&Cs are most welcome and feel free to paintover also if needed

Don't have much time, but I definitely wish to enter this challenge, and many more organized by a very good friend.
            So here's my first WIP!

Good work so far, guys, I'll get back to you with some pointers after I'm done with some work over here.
I updated the deadline as it was too long, but you'll have plenty of time still to get your study finished

                Outstanding, tobz, I'm really impressed.
I myself took a dive at Michael Hampton's Figure Drawing book and got a few insights on how to correct my WIP.
The volume on the muscles of your WIP just left me in awe...excellent

I agree, Tobz that's fantastic! I'll try to get something in. I'm in finals
right now and there's no time for anything else. I'm trying to finished
                  my school paintings.
