Neuromancer

Filming of Neuromancer has been set to begin in early 2012 with locations including Canada, Istanbul, Tokyo, and London.
Pre-visual effects work has already begun.

Gibson’s novel kicked off the cyberpunk craze, set in a dystopian future, the plot following Case, a computer whizz who lives his life in cyberspace.
He's hired by a mysterious employer to "pull off the ultimate hack"


Director Vincenzo Natali has this to say:
"Splice is about evolving our bodies. Neuromancer is about evolving our minds, and how we’re going to merge and interact with machine consciousnesses in the future."

Regarding matrix and other movies:
"I think The Matrix is a wonderful film, but it absolutely takes place in a comic book universe…everything about it, in the best possible way mind you, but really I think it’s a very heightened reality…"
"If I had to make a comparison, a little more of the Blade Runner type universe, which is kind of a more adult-type of movie"


The challenge is to make some pre-visual work for this movie.

Usually its just one. But since I asked for "some pre-visual work". You can do more than one image.
Do one main illustration and some additional images if you got time, or really want to? =)

I was thinking its worth doing one main illustration like a character, and then additional illustration of environment for the setting and mood and what not.

Starting to play around with different ideas for this. There's a load of computer-y overlays that are missing at this point, so the story isn't reading clearly yet.

When working on this, was thinking of her standing in the street vendor scene of Neuromancer. May add environmental elements, should time permit.

charco good start! though im not sure what the story is yet, he's pointing somwehere...? You got any new update for us? =)

marzie_e I like the character =) maybe give her a belt or pockets where she can have like a gun or something?
Also her legs are too long.

AmagogRammJahurr that looks sweet, i kind of like that sleek look to her outfit, but she looks halfnaked, im not saying you cant do her like that though. Updateeees? =)

Zoonoid Looks sweet =) Is it molly? Where's the sunglasses Its really close to being something fitting for characterforge.
You might wanna explore something more storybased.. Undoubtedly it looks sweet



Its good to first write down stuff you want to have in your pic, for example
"molly meeting case for the first time in a small apartment"
And think about the environment, is it dirty or clean...?
Who's apartment?
Whats the mood?
What are molly/case's reaction to this situation?

Then when you have decided, you should do lots of quick thumbnails, just exploring ideas and getting rid of crap ones.
You could do separate character concepts, like you guys already started...
But you dont have to.
Then you can take one of the thumnails and develop it more in a bigger sketch.
Then either do final line drawing or just get painting!

Separate color/value/mood roughs can be good too before doing anything final.
Also doing research is good...


You dont HAVE to do all this. Its more an example of how I would go about it.
