~Challenges Begins Saturday March 3 12:00 am EST~

*EXTENSION Until Sunday April 8th, 11 :59 pm*

This months challenge is Creature Anatomy:

You will need to model/ sculpt the internal bone and musculature of a creature/ alien/ monster of your choosing.
This means that you need to create believable and realistic like muscle form, bone structure, and connective tissue.

You don't need to sculpt all the bones (although that would be very helpful). Its more of placing the boney protrusions that are visible though the skin (elbows, clavicle, hips, knuckles, knees, etc) in a proper and logical place. So while you are sculpting these become anchor points for the muscles to connect too.

When considering your creature you will have to look at things like :

(you aren't limited to the ones here, feel free to come up with your own idea)

Goat demon or Satyr ... this has the head and legs of a goat but arms and upper torso of a man. How will the muscles blend within the upper and lower torso, how will the muscles in the leg wrap around the bones of the thigh and knee.

A vampire, angel or "gargoyle" who has wings; you have to think of the wings as a second set of arms. What does that entail? this could be a second set of shoulders, traps, lats, etc or over sized ones that must compensate for the great weight the wings may have to carry.

A Centaur.( skeleton image below). Similar to the Goat Demon. You will have to blend the bones and muscles to be believable. That means they will wrap, fold and flow between the 2 differnt body parts.

Giant Elephant man, again building the humanoid structure and blending with the elephant one.

These creatures must make sense in OUR reality, our physics. They must be relatable to us humans and must function like real bones and muscles.

This challenge will be a REAL challenge in the sense that it will test your anatomy skills and how well you can follow reference.

Research your creature, what does it resemble, grab multiple reference images to help. Then you need to figure out how it works, especially when blending it with other types of creatures

Requirements:
~ Sculpt/model an anatomical version of a creature of your choosing.

~ Bones and musculature must be realistic in form and function (not necessarily in a photo realistic sense)

~ Final presentation should be creative; Anatomical medical diagram; poacher skinning his kill; medical surgery autopsy or disection, etc. Have fun, be morbid, etc.

~ Front, side and back grey scale shots ( if you have time then texture it like the anatomy reference image below.)

~ Beauty presentation shot.

*Challenge Ends April 8 11:59 EST*

I am a little confused on the requirements.

    1. Do we have to model a pre-existing creature or can we make our own?

    2. If we can use our own creature, how do we have to show you the original concept, model or concept art?

    3. Does it have to be both muscle and skeleton system?

Nugasuar~You can use any creature you want. I stated not to limit yourself to the examples above.

I guess I wasn't clear enough on the description. you don't need to sculpt all the bones (although that would be very helpful). Its more of placing the boney protrusions that are visible though the skin ( elbows, clavicle, hips, knuckles, knees, etc) in a proper and logical place. So while you are sculpting these become anchor points for the muscles to connect too. (i'll post this description in the challenge outline as well)

Joss~You don't have to reply to enter but its good to see numbers of people who want to enter.

      Hope it helps.

Default Awesome challenge and a really tough one too :-)

Wow really nice one on the challenge... This is going to be a tough one! Hopefully I got the time to participate, would love to do such a creature like that, because I am in the phase learning anatomy, anatomy, anatomy

One question though is everything allowed? Seems to me that there are some different concepts like the elephant or the berserker beast? It can be everything but it hast to be anatomical view of it with his muscles for example???

Thanks cghub for putting up these challenges, really great !
Wishing everyone who is participating a lot of fun and happy sculpting,

Default ok. Iīll take a shot at this !!

It looks like a great chance to practice tnx for this challenge, it will help me to be a better 3D artist, for shure!

-by the way! i got a question: how about to use non organic elements as part of the creature... 0_o"!? letīs say that my creatures has some "non organic elements" has part of its anatomy... like Doomsday that has kind of rocks in his body... or maybe use cristals instead of horns... it is posible?! or you prefer to keep it clear an most "evolutively" true and real posible.??

Sure, just as long as it doesn't get into the techno-cyber-man-machine stuff... lets keep that for another challenge

hey kenny ~ yeah any type of creature you want just as long as it is an anatomical "study" like sculpt. muscles and bones, logically placed using real life reference to help guide you.

        Good luck!

wow this is an incredible challenge. I have never created bones/muscles in a 3D program before. This could be a really great experience for me anatomy wise. Good Luck everyone!

If you guys have questions or are getting stuck with the form and process or need answers to technical questions concerning 3D programs and such, post your issues and concerns here as well. If I can't answer, someone else will have some insight into what you need.

              Cheers!
