Wow Steampunk Persephone! Really cool touches on the wardrobe. I didn't think the original color version looked all that bad with the stylization, though taking it to B&W should help you bring back some subtlety to your values. Looking forward to seeing how she progresses!

So I'm back again after never finishing my entry for Uriel. Maybe I can finish this one eh? I've worked up a few thumbnails to get a grasp of how a cover might be laid out.

Thumb 1 - My favorite. Has a nice familiar cropped character-focused view for a book cover and allows me to focus on all the little fashion details and her face. I like the hint of something malevolent in her half lidded red eyes. Tis a nice contrast to her femininity!

Thumb 2 - A more full body view laid out like a comic book. I like the idea of the glowing seed in this one along with showing more dress/hair flow, considering she is a goddess of spring.

Thumb 3 - A side view with Persephone cradling dying flowers. I like the flow on this one as well as the close crop. It is perhaps a little too submissive?

I think I'll be going with Thumb 1, but which do you guys prefer?

Some more progress, and a background I'm finally okay with. Would love some feedback too!

All the entries are so good! I look forward to seeing them finished.

I'll grab some time tomorrow to leave some feedback, as it's off to bed for me! some lovely looking pieces though!

The idea is having her as a couture fashion model.

Default Angela's Persephone - More Thumbnails

I added 3 more thumbnails to my exploration of a layout. Think I'll be going with 4 for its overall compositional flow and the single glowing seed, which works well with her spring persona.

Yikes! I better get a move on if I want to meet that deadline. Will come back later with some feedback for you guys in a separate post tomorrow.

Kay.. bit of feedback! (working backwards up the posts!)

Gary: I really like the less obvious take you've gone with here, with a touch of humour about it (that middle dog head cracks me up!) Only thigns I can think of to nitpick are the fact that the background behind the bench sort of blends seamlessly with what looks like water? (might be that sort of shimmer fog effect you have if it's not). Also with the values, persephone herself feels quite dark, given the sudden drop off behind her, but it does make her pop. But overall I really like it!

Ang: already discussed a little, but I really like 5... something in the composition works well for a book cover if thats what you're going for... though part of my wants to see you try for a more full figure piece to push your design capabilities. Would also love to see you explore some more costume possibilities.

Faye: already a great looking piece, although I'm not sure if I'd say it was a more modern take on her... maybe more a magical take? Either way it's coming along nicely... you could try adding some more pinks into certain parts of her skin, as the cloth is feling quite warm, where as her skin feels a little sallow? Like her eyes though, she looks really ethereal.

Roarti: when I saw your inital post, I thought she might be a bit masculine, but seeing how this is coming on, I actually really like it. no crits thus far, just goona wait and see how it goes!

NateKing: Liking your colours! I also like she's definitely not a more traditional take. Myabe a more subtle blend of the colours on her skin would help her enthralling nature some, and maybe soften the shadow under her boob, as it feels a little too sharp up to the rest of her.

Jonas: Really liking your rendering, but maybe it's a little too faithful to the ref you're using? (could be wrong, but it feels like it!) Really love the pomegranate as a base, will hold off crit till I see where you take the background and any other details you add. Thought maybe she could do with a couple of more up to date elements in the image?

Ororo: I reather like it, and I like the look - I think it does have a slightly modern feel to it, as it almost feels like you can see her chamise or underwear beneath her dress, and along with the stilettos, it's actually a nice balance! If you're worries, a more modern background would help sell it, like maybe she was sat on the outside of something like Caeser's palace in Vegas?

nicanoff: Love it. getting my vote thus far! only thing (and it's a teeeensy nitpick) is that the highlight in her left eye throws her viewing direction out a little bit!

Yakuza: really like the flow of the fabric, and the atmosphere you've got going on in the upper echelons. Again, I think her skin tones could be pushed to pop more, so they're not quite so grey... if it helps, try looking at skin tones of photographs with a colour picker, you'll probably be surpised how saturated they can get at times.

JSolorzano: Loving how she's looking! Values in the second black and white are looking cool... maybe you could add some more light affects to the portal? but as far as Persephone herself goes, I think you've nailed her look, she's awesome!

Well... this is my first try ever at this kinda of challenges, and this is like the third character I ever develop. I'll apreciate any suggestion and idea for the brackground that so far elude my mind, as well as any other critic.

The main idea for this conceptualization is that Persephone is a 20ish years old girl from modern times who's being held captive agains her will by Hades, but she end up falling in love with him because the Stockholm Syndrome, and that's why she became the Queen of the Underworld. In her right hand she will have a pomegranade, and her left feet is gonna by chained to something =p.

P.D English is no my first lenguage so maybe I wrote something that does not make much sense, I apologize for that

Haha, I guess the whole "update her" idea got a little lost I'll rethink her outfit a bit and see if I can modernize it a bit. Thanks!

Well, I guess that I was in the mood for this...
I obviously used photo for the reference and I was very careful with the colors . I especially like that lighter touch on the cheeks and on the forehead that gave texture, bumpiness, to the skin. ("C'mon..." she said "I look like a goose..." eh ...not to me! )
As always, I have problem with the colors, when I work with the darker hues, on the cintiq I can't see fine differences, gamma is to dark.
So this is the the first draft, took me 4 hours...
