CHARACTER: Persephone

CHARACTER: Persephone, daughter of Zeus and the harvest-goddess Demeter, and Queen of the Underworld.


Genre: Greek Mythology
Role: Main Character (misunderstood goddess)
Type: Goddess
Gender: Female
Age: Mid 20's (in appearance)
Height: About 5' 5" human height, (20 feet goddess height)
Stature: Imposing posture.
Hair: Dark, shiny and wavy.
Eyes: Red-brown
Personality: Formidable, venerable and majestic.
Characteristics/Traits: Skin tone may be pale to golden hue - artist's choice.
Clothing / Dress: Artist's choice, may be in classical Athenean robes mixed with intricate gold jewelry, or something really cool.
Tools / Artifacts / Equipment / Weapons: None, except there may be some flames around her.


This challenge is straight-forward. Your task as an artist is to design an up-to-date Persephone from the Greek myths. What would she look like if you were to stand right in front of her presence? Is she terrifying? Is she hauntingly beautiful? Does she command your attention? Treat this as an assignment for a book cover illustration with the title: 'Persephone - Queen of the Underworld' (don't include the title in your illustration, but make room for it in the top area). This is all about her, so do some research and give us the goddess Persephone in real life! You may depict Persephone in her environment of Hades, the Underworld (optional) - or just by herself as a character design. But make her look stunning.

The only requirement is that she be beautiful, with a complimentary figure because all men are afraid of her yet they can't resist her! The rest of her design is up to the artist. Have fun!!!

I felt that the 'up-to-date Persephone' could be one of the most famous top models, beautiful and stunning in their confidence.

I made no references to the Underworld, but I'll try to fix it.

I hope I'll manage to finish it up.

This is my first character jam so be gentle. Not long into this one, I added Hades in the background about to take her away to the underworld.

Welcome Yakuza, nice rendering so far. make sure you pay attention to your values (make sure the piece renders well in B+W AND color) Also, pay atention to your surface treatment (Textures) atm everything seems to be a bit blurry/smudgey.

I decided to go all mod with it...and yes she IS a hipster. I was inspired by Portlandia.

This is also my first character forge entry!

I doubt I'll be able to actually complete it by the deadline as I have exams the entire upcoming week. Either way, I liked the prompt enough to sketch a little something.

The hand is wonky and I can't tell if I made the head too big or small, though. Thoughts? :/

I might lean towards making the head a little smaller, but I have a heck of a time with head size so take it with a grain of salt.

Here's an update on my entry... Not really sure where I want to go with the background yet, hopefully something will come to me.
