    Here is the beginning of my gargoyle mesh, super early, about 3 hours in, most of that is learning ZBrush though...

    I think the basic form is there, I just have to detail everything out, and obviously add the other parts like ears, hands, horns, etc. Then I can pose him and blah blah blah!

    Any critiques and comments are definitely welcome!

    *Everyone*

    Are you using any reference for your sculpt or just going with it? One of the best tools that will help you as you learn how to sculpt is reference; anatomy, armour, clothing, stone, bats, other artists work, etc.

    Take a couple hours and google all different types of things that you think might make good reference. I have over 20 GB just in reference material on my HDD. If its a cool image or has great lighting, a certain line or silhouette to the pose, I download it. even if you don't use it right away you may eventually need it later on.

    I'm currently working on a Wonder woman bust and I downloaded over 20 different images of her. some from comics like adam hughes work and some from cosplay models, I'm working from at least 8 of those images, all helping with matching anatomy to getting the pose right and not screwing up her costume...

    Good luck!

        @kryssmen:

        I always use reference, though I don't usually download reference, for two reasons. 1: With the advent of high speed internet there is no need (for me). 2: Saves space on my hard drive, because, more often than naught I won't use them ever again.

        Times that I will, if I need something specific, IE certain lighting conditions, certain materials or textures, or in my case for this challenge, a couple of inspirational images that I can bust open when I get lost.

        @drunksgt:

        Hey man that is looking great! Right now I feel the face looks more "batlike" than anything else, mostly because of the ears I think, I am guessing that this is intentional?

            Here is my second update. Got the form shaped out a lot more, face has started coming together, as have the arms. I ended up spending about 3 hours on ZBrush's technical side, messing with MatCaps / LightCaps, etc. I quite like the look of the MatCap I have gussied up here, but I will likely change it later on.

            One thing I absolutely dislike about ZBrush is the Alt+Click+Release Alt+Drag to Zoom... Ugh. I tried to remap the zoom to one of my macro keys on my Black Widow keyboard, but apparently ZBrush doesn't recognize the keys? And then I tried remapping to Z or even Alt+Z, but for some reason, holding down Z slows my viewport to a crawl. I couldn't find any tool already mapped to Z though so I am at a loss as to why that is happening.

            Anyhow! Here is the screenshot, feel free to give me any critiques or comments, I welcome both.

              Z is mapped to spotlight.
              Shift+Z opens spotlight
              then press Z to open Spotlight radial

                        Hey guys! A small update tonight. Started the wing structure, not sure how I feel about it. They will probably change quite a bit. It seems that this Gargoyle project was the perfect opprotunity for me to learn ZBrush, getting to know a lot of the tools and options, mostly out of necessity! :P

                        Worked a bit more on filling out his body shape and areas, like his love handles and pectorals. Still have to add the tail, finish off the wings then pose him and do the rest.. FUN!

                        Critiques and comments always welcome!
