Thanx tiong1, one thing is for sure, this challenge has totally made me re-think the way i use ZBrush. Being primarily a 2d artist i mainly use ZBrush for modelling characters for illustrations and i ignore things like topology, UV'S etc. this challenge has made me think about those things which can only be a good thing n i'm learning alot already

thought i'd try modeling her hair, still waiting for the release of ZB4r2 and fibermesh, but had a go using zspheres. Finally getting somewhere with the demon's tail.

Thanx Renderluz, I had to change the topology and pose since my last update as I wanted to have the demon's arms as separate polygroups. I fell into the trap of posing and detailing too early into the project, still relatively new to this 3D thing.

reasonably happy with the posing and positioning, so decided to work on some of the details on the girl....next it's time for some skullduggery

Finally got some time to get back to the challenge, i've installed ZBrush's update and was eager to mess around with it's new fibermesh tool. I used decimation master to reduce the amount of polys in the hair on one of the images as my pc is starting to chug, however it's an amazing addition to the software and well worth the extra render time when using BPR. I've also started working on the skulls that are in the piece, on closer inspection of Adrian's artwork, some of the skulls dont appear to be human so i think i'm gonna deform them slightly to make it look the the demon has fought many foes (other demons) to win his prize....every picture tells a story after all!

After many attempts to get it right i decided to start the demon's tail again from scratch. I originally modeled it in a straight line and tried to curve it around using the move and transpose tools. It worked at first but it eventually started distorting the bones too much. I then tried sculpting a rough tail to match the curve then made a set of 3 differing vertebrae and added them along the curve of the template inserting discs in the spaces after i'd finished. I think i got a better result than my first attempt. I've also started working on the details on both characters.

Just a quick tip, lots of you ZBrush sculptors probably know this already but i just discovered it myself. I was having some trouble modeling the demon's talons and fingernails, i did'nt want to sculpt them into the mesh as this would've needed more polys than my pc could handle at the time, i also did'nt want to make tham sepaarate subtools because it would've been really tedious moving every nail/talon every time i wanted to move a finger/toe. Try sculpting the them as a subtool then using the mesh insert dot brush to add the talon to the mesh. The peice is added to the mesh but it is as a separate polygroup and can be masked and/or isolated for further sculpting.....sorry for the the long-winded post, just thought i'd mention it

No problem Vastarien, i plan to use the same method for most of the skulls and other parts, will save loads of time.

Seeing as i messed up starting a thread the first time round, i thought i'd show my initial progress on this awesome challenge. I used two models i'd made previously as a base and went from there.

Been working on the demons face, really trying to keep to the "aging warrior" look. Also been experimenting with his hair.
