Default WIP - Ssj2 Gohan from dbz

    Hi everyone,

I just joined this forum so I can start sharing some stuff. I've been modeling for a long time now and decided to start being more actively involved in online discussion on the subject. Anyway, here's WIP of my most recent project. Hope you like it and suggestions are always welcome. It's a medium-poly of the character Gohan from the show Dragonball Z. I'm pretty content on the face so far and I've started putting up the body. Lots of tweaks and adjustments to be made but it's a start It's a subdivision model btw, I'll put up some wire renders later in the original res.

      Default Cool :)

I've never been a big fan of Akira's work, but playing enough Dragon Quest games have eased me in a bit more. It's looking pretty sweet and lifelike, but may I say that at this point his muscles look too perfect, depending on what you're going for of course. I would only recommend you vary up the anatomy in terms of muscles, especially the abs...and of course any texture you intend to ad...great start

Hi. Thanks for the reply and comments. The reason for the muscles being to perfect is that I like to over-define the muscle groups for future animation purposes. After I got all the muscles the way I want to anatomically I smooth them out. When this is all done I'll convert the model to a whole since I'm currently working on it with the mirror modifier turned on. At that point I'll start to make everything more asymetrically. I'll keep posting with updates along the way. Thanks again .

          Hey RLXDesign!

While I can definitely tell who that is, the anatomy leaves a lot to be desired. Akira Toriyama was a master of anatomy, and knew where and when to place (or not) emphasis on the human form.

This is why a lot of his character designs still hold up today, and why his art style has been reproduced, copied, and used as inspiration in many notable artists portfolios. The best example of this is Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of Naruto. Akira was a huge influence on him as an artist, and it definitely shows.

If you haven't done so already, I would suggest looking at a buttload of DragonBall manga and really study the style and anatomy, and how Akira uses simple lines to dictate bold shapes.

Later on in the DragonBall Z series you will find that a lot of his characters have very shapely chests. They all stand with the classic hero pose, chest protruded, exuding confidence and general badassery.

          Cheers sir!

This is looking good for now. Can still use some love, but yeah... I like it. Big fan of DragonBall Z. Thanks for the model.
