Creature Forge #52 - Jungle Giant
01-04-2012, 01:10 AM
Welcome to the Creature Forge, the CGHUB 2D challenge of illustrating creatures of all shapes and sizes!
Creature #52 :: Jungle Giant
Deadline EXTENDED: Monday, January 16th 2012 11:59pm [PST]
Some creatures have humble beginnings but grow into gargantuan terrors. It's your job to depict the Jungle Giant, an enormous creature that inhabits the thick jungles they call home. While this creature ends up to be over 30 ft tall, it starts it's life out in the undergrowth, small and adorable. These creatures are known for their bad attitude and tough appearance in adulthood and they are usually avoided.
1. We really want to be able to see the entire creature for this round so no background is required. You may include a vignetted background if you like.
2. A full body shot is required of the adolescent and the adult version of the creature - so two studies total.
3. We also need to see details of the head and how the two faces differ and relate. There needs to be similarities between the adolescent's features and the adult's.
Steer away from humanoid forms. We want to explore different anatomy.
Do not submit four images in the finals thread.
Please compile your studies into TWO images: one for the adolescent stage and one for the adult stage of the creature.
They can look similar to this:
Let's keep up the awesome work!!
Good Luck and be sure to post any questions or comments in this thread.
“Please don't keep everything secret, working on your image in private only to post it at the very last hour as a surprise. The point of sharing sketches and work in progress material is so everyone can learn from each other, receive crits, compliments and improve their skills in a classroom/workshop like environment. There are no teachers and no students per say, but try to offer help to others when possible. Please be open to receiving crits, and paint-overs or mock ups of your work, as we are all here to participate, have fun, learn, grow and enjoy what each week has to offer.” --Mike Corriero

Alright crits and lineart.
aimmonkey- crazy design and head going on there. The growth is very recognizable, but in such a large creature all the additional features seem hard to believe as a natural growth process. However as an insectoid it is most possible, plus, I'm probably not seeing everything I should. Looking forward to more of your progress.
Berends- nice work so far. I like the emotion and height built in your creature. Looking forward to the smaller cuter version.
t-cube- Just from the silhouette I can tell the similarities and growth between them. I'm guessing they aren't to scale though I would however be careful with the humanoid rule on them. Remember gorilla if you must!
jonastecher- just curious, is that the head or the whole creature I can see it going either way. I like how you went in quite an alien direction. That will make things interesting!
lys- I'm thinking either 1 or 3 both have a level of power to them that lends itself to be a "giant." Good luck with the work ahead on actual sketches and such.
And here is my progress in lineart form
