Ok, thank you everyone for the tips. I have re-worked my concept again and here is my final entry for this 2D Jam. Thank you very much for the critiques it has helped me a lot!

It still feels too blurry for me.

iono, this might just grind done to style, which is really freaking hard to justifiably critique, so mebe?

Hello! It's my first post on CGHUB, and the first challenge, of course. I've just registered here and I as soon as I found out about the challenges I thought the idea is absolutely great!
I did't get it at first though that it's encouraged to post illustrations from the very beginning to show the whole process, and I also failed to notice the information about chinese stylistic being preferred...

Anyway, this is my interpretation of this challenge. For now I worked on the composition of the body and skin structure. I think I will add some elements of the background at the end.

i like that a lot! Your approach reminds me of Adrian Smith's work. Very cool. His left wing is looking a little confusing to me though. it looks like its behind his back?

i love that concept. very funny. i Think what would help yours the most is if you added some anatomy to the dragons hand. Like Knuckles, and joints so that it can pop out more. I mean i see the cow and the boy are more on the cartoon side but if you look at like, 'Mushu' from 'Mulan', you'll see even in his design they put some firm bones in his hands. Just my 2 cents :P looking good so far.

You are absolutely right about the wings, there are still left some remainings from before I decided on the pose, it still needs tuning.
