Angry A paint over of what?

I took a look at his portfolio, and it seems his entry is more or less on par with everything else in his portfolio. Can anyone actually show the picture he supposedly painted over? I ask because it would be pretty unfair to arbitrarily accuse someone of plagiarism.

    This isn't an arbitrary accusation.

Wow, thats really too bad, was saving my vote for his entry.
On the other part, I'm glad this was brought to our attention, it's clear that these challenges are under strict observation so everyone sticks to the rules.
    Thanks, SCwatson

It is unfortunate, and we hate being put in the position where we (collectively any of the mods) have to disqualify someone.

As for strict observation - it's not so much that, as this was brought to our attention by another member. But the question we're faced with is would allowing something like this, regardless of who did it, go to poll be fair to the members who created original works?

just so that I understand the rules clearly, even if an artist can prove somehow it is not a paintover and provide permission of the photographer, would the artwork not be accepted since it is not entirely original (e.g. only using the head)?

It's fairly simple to demonstrate a paint over, as is shown.

The issue here isn't that a photo was used - it is the manner in which it was used - it was traced and then painted over. As you can see, even just quickly throwing the photo over and adjusting for size, there is no real variation. For our purposes here, this qualifies as cheating, and will always be disqualified when discovered. There is no gray area.

This also applies to other people's artwork.

If you're good enough to paint an original background, paint the entire picture. Don't cheat yourself.

It's a shame if challengers don't undestand the most exciting point in the CForge2d : taking part in the WIP thread. Giving C&C and taking C&C. Sharing is more enriching than winning, don't you think ? Anyway, taken as a whole (subject, composition, posing, color, etc.) RodG did a good job. It would be just benefit for us to follow his doubts, certainties and choices.
