I think about a week remains. It looks like about ten people have thrown their hats in the ring on this one. I am pretty happy about that. Perhaps the three week time frame is the way to go.

Hi Everyone
![]() I figured I'd just click down the list under 'challenges' and came across this thread. I am excited with what I see here. I usually participate in the anatomicae, 3d character forge, and 2d creature planet threads, but I would love to practice doing more environment stuff. Looks like I'm probably a bit late for this one, but I look forward to participating regularly here. Arttorney, I think that it's merely the marketing of this thread that is causing the low involvement (I saw your earlier post where you were wondering about why people may not be getting involved). The topics look fun. The only reason I joined the other threads was because I saw a banner one day. I also think that 2 week deadlines are ideal, seems like that's the sweet spot where they're not too short and not too long. The 1 week long ones can be frustrating sometimes when something suddenly kicks in schedule-wise and you can't finish what was begun earlier in the week. I am impressed with what people have posted here, looks like I have a loooooong way to go but looking forward to learning with you guys. ![]() Thanks for this thread!

I like what I've seen of your work. Try anyway, I say.
I do what I can, and CJ_ marsh does what he can. We are just struggling is all. I just have time to make my own art, or else keep this thing alive. (not necessarily both) From some things folks have posted, I think, fundamentally, people would just like criticisms they can work with. I can try, but I am so busy getting out the billing letters for November that it it very difficult to give out more than one criticism per day. @ cursed: usually static/centered compositions are a problem, but you seem to have solved the problem by having more near ground buildings on one side and more far ground buildings on the other.

@simpleton I kinda agree with you kinda don't. The red version seemed a bit too monochromatic but that could be because I've stared at it so long that I had to do something about it.
But it does have a more profound feel to it. Maybe I'll go back and experiment a bit. As for your entry, I'd haze out the left hand side island and darken the right side to help bring it forward, reflections on the sea, I like the simplicity of it, but am looking forward to see some solid structure play off against the sunset there. And btw, try putting down red-orange-yellow-white for sun's glow. It looks like we are exposing for the sky so we could see a nice round sun setting there. @D_art hey good concept, my only issue is that it frankly looks a bit too balanced for some reason. I just noticed that you have very black shadow tones behind that huge gray mountain, lightening it up a bit should help, use fill color off the sky, it seems like you've forgotten a bit about it. Put it on to your foreground black shape as well, that'll help bring some form. I love what you did with the distant mountains there, but the mid and foreground needs more work. I see a narrow and visible crack in that foggy valley that meanders off into the horizon, that'd be kinda cool to see done. @petersiegl Nice I like your take on the subject. Reflection of the light on the river, a more distinctive atmospheric perspective, and even moving that body the temple sits on a bit towards center should help. Even make it into a more diagonal shape to bring a bit more dynamism into it. That'd nicely contrast the verticalness you got going on there. @eager Great sketches, personally as the second one seems more illustrative, the third one extremely dynamic I can't decide between the two (the third one!) It's great that more people are participating, I'm doing my best to keep up! And attorney, 2 weeks sounds like a good timeline to me too, 3 is a bit too long. Hi eager, I like the 2nd sketch it seems to have more space than the other 2. I was wondering if you were going to put something in that area to make it more ominous like you did with the 1st sketch.

Hey Virev, this environment has real potential to potray evil, love the skeleton in the foreground. Just a suggestion you might want to rethink your horizon line it splits your image in half equally from what I can see. Good work, can't wait to see more.
