@ProofPudding Really nice concept! I'm loving it but you should maybe think how the kid fits inside it? He does fit but where are his legs and arms?

@Grumbleputty Like this one two but same question as the other: how would he fit there? In this case i think it needs a bigger neck or he wont be able to see trough the mask eyes... unless it is a giant robot and he is in the center.... that would be cool.

@blue327 Digging this one as well but maybe you should had a bit more mechanic parts? Armor/protection? Weaponry?

I understand they are all sketches, just giving my opinion.

    Default A little opinion

@bemota : thanks for the comments. Most of the mechanical parts of my character are on his arms, and some metal armour on his thighs and boots, I don't want to make him too robotic, so I'm keeping the machinery a little more than half (which is the requirement). But probably in the sketches it isn't obvious enough, so, I'll make it clearer in the next progress.

As for your design, I think it's quite interesting. But what material is his suit made of? It looks a little soft for an armour. And probably you can add more elements of the Nutcracker?

@ProofPudding : really cool mask! The suit is a little bulky for my taste, but well, everyone has different preference.

@Grumbleputty : I love your drawing. And the Nutcracker elements are really prominent in your design. Keep it up!

Hopefully my comments are useful to you guys.

      Default Character design for Kid

@bemota: I am planing to make a cockpit inside the Mecha suite. In this rough I design a rough Idea of that.

@blue327:Thank you, Yea large bots aren't really what I do but I thought I would try something a little different.

Here is rough of the character inside of the Mecha-Cracker.
My kid is really into tinkering with stuff. He is a hot roder of sorts. He loves to make thing that are big and loud.

Throwing my hat into the ring on this one, I'm going for a more bulky mecha design, not sure I'll keep it though, this is just an intial sketch. I like how the boots look but I think the joints need work.

@ProofPudding I like the metallic feel oof your design. Especially the suit's face
@blue327 The lithe nutcracker is a cool Idea, I think my favourite is the one on the bottom right with the cape
@Bemota I like the helmet in this, one question though. Will you add his hat?

        Default Character sheet

My progress so far. Did this orthography for my own good, to get a clear view of the whole design. The backview looks crappy cos I was tired at that time :S but will try to fix it later. Next will be composition/pose thumbs, I hope =)

QQ> what if I wanted to create a scene with two characters in battle like hero vs. villian, but with the nutcracker character being the main focus and the other being off to the side or way in the background, would that work seeing as there can only be one

I did up a quick sketch of what I'm referring to as well so theres no confusion

            Default Rough Nutcracker

@blue327: I like where you are going with your character.

Just working on who I want the Nutcracker to stand. This is what I got so far. Still not happy with the pose, so any ideas would help. Let me know what you all think.http://cghub.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

            Default Thumbs

Some thumbnails. I added the Mouse King in the first one, don't know if it's ok, seeing that only one character is allowed? But only half his body is shown. Any comments? If it's not allowed, I'll probably go for the bottom one, or explore more ><

Just giving a suggestion. Don't know if it helps. You could probably try out other options as well. Nice details, btw.

            Hey guys
I've been pretty busy so I couldnt really post any WIPs and write comments and such and I pretty much had a clear idea of what I wanted right from the start :P As a big fan of Mignolas work, I decided to go with his style for this challenge
Started of traditionally with pencil and ink, scanned, then inked again and colored in photoshop
I'm calling it done for the moment, but any comments will be much appreciated and I will apply them for the final piece

That looks absolutely stunning! It's a very interesting style, and great use of colours. My comment is that maybe there is a little bit lack of contrast? Probably brighten up the nut part?

@Emraht: I think the composition is good, the aggressive stand of the nutcracker does not bug me at all and I think you're going the right way with this. Keep up the good work!

@blue327: Thank you! You are very correct, after seeing it in different monitors I came to the same conclussion. I played a bit with the contrast/hue options and saturated / desaturated some parts and I think i hit the spot now What do you think?
