I am loving that shape of the cowboy arm! It's so striking and it's the first thing I see that makes me go "oh, it's sci-fi western, cool!" Good job with the color blocking, making that cowboy stand out is a great composition. You do lose the shape of alligator man, so keep that in mind when you work on it next since it's an important element in this piece.

Otherwise, it was great talking with you last night! Let's do it again soon.

          Hi guys!

It's been a very long time, it deeply saddens me, truly, I've come to love cghub as my second home and I really miss all of my friends whom I only have limited contact over things like the sketchbook or challenges, etc.

I've had the luck to add a lot of them to my facebook (You're all invited to add me! ), alas, my time is limited to my day job which is hurting badly, taking job home, working extra hours and working on side projects which (Fortunately) I've been picked to freelance along a friend of mine.

After saying how much I've missed you guys, lemme ramble a little bit of what's been happening over here (Don't worry, I'll show some artwork I've been working on, promise!)
Besides doing my day job as a graphic designer, I've teamed up with a close friend of mine who needed an artist to freelance the illustrations for a mobile videogame and we got both the job! So it's been busy times.

On the good side, I'm gonna go to Diablo Swing Orchestra's concert this Saturday and I'm really excited because I won a VIP backstage pass to meet the band after the concert! So I'll be posting a lot of pictures on FB from that encounter hahaha

I have not touched a single illustration from my personal work in quite a while, which gets me in the blues. However, I'm deciding whether or not I should take a leap of faith and leave my job and quit the Master's Degree. The job is fine, but I want to work on my portfolio and try my luck elsewhere and start working dead seriously on my own intellectual properties. The master's degree is NOT what I had expected. Sure, I'm learning some 3D, but since we caught 2 out of 3 professors using free online tutorials for the classes, well, I guess you can all understand why I'm so upset after paying all my income to these people...

Anyway, sorry for the long ramblings, I think I should start a blog and post all my weird stuff there instead of doing these looong sketchbook entries.
Anyways, I'm currently working on a videogame for Ipad and Iphone for the guys I'm working as graphic designer. It's been a long run but it's been fun, we estimate it should be ready in about a month and it'll be free to download so hopefully you guys will have a look at it
As for the moment, I can only share these screenshots from the game based on characters of their creation. So far I've done all the artwork, animations and programming so I'm very proud of the result as my first mobile videogame done entirely by me

Thanks a lot for reading! I'll try my best to get back to you all on your sketchbooks, everybody seems to be doing a lot of hard work! Cheers!

awww I love those last illustrations. That bird is so cute
It's cool that you're doing 3d, when I was learning 3d our teachers also used tutorials sometimes, I think since it's such a recent and changing industry it's best to learn from what other artists are doing instead of books that are not up to date.
I hope you'll be back soon with more updates

@kevin-: Thnxs, man, I'm glad to hear someone reads all the crazy stuff I write down :P Sure! I'll grab the artwork done so far tomorrow and post it soon enough Thnxs for visiting!

@Voodoo-Mama: I'm sorry the updates took so long! Your kind words are a great boost for me, thank you for dropping by!

@Stace: Updates are at hand...your move, madame

As some of you may know, I travel a lot, work a lot, and try to visit my GF a lot...giving me little time to work on my true passion! However, I still manage to draw once in a while in my always handy moleskine, I reaaaaally need to take some time off and finish all these illustrations! If I remember correctly, I still have to finish that "Unborn" creature from a few posts, the sci fi cowboy western scene and a TON of sketchbook doodles...Alas, I continue drawing and jotting ideas down on my notebooks, I should stop doing that and focus on finishing all the other stuff. On the bright side, I'll be very busy once I get those vacations! XD

Anyways, enough bla bla bla, and here come the updates!

I travel to the city of Guadalajara every Friday to undergo the classes for a Master's Degree and my cousins let me stay with them each weekend in exchange of a drawing every now and then XP Here, my greatest fan, Sherlyn. Fan Art for Voodoo Mon Amour, one of Diablo Swing Orchestra's track from their latest album "Pandora's Pïñata"

As a quick bonus.......I GOT TO MEET DIABLO SWING ORCHESTRA D: I cannot write how happy I was for a couple of hours. The concert was awesome, there was plenty of dancing, jumping around and tons of dehydration and fatigue. But afterwards, I got to meet the band thanks to a VIP backstage I won from Facebook :P
Since I lack a blog or tumblr account of any sort...I shall post a couple of photos here

Hey Bro sorry for not posting anything for a while..
                  Been preoccupied by things lately

first of all, i always like your ramblings and love reading them..
What about the death match? no news about it lately..

And heard you are also busy and confused with your MFA...
I understand that dude as what you are earning goes towards that which is not giving you the satisfaction for it..

So relax and think carefully and then decide about it..

And lastly, loved the new updates and looking forward to see more updates from you as well

And i am also planning to start a sketchbook myself to keep me on the right track

@kevin: Thanks, man! Yeah, the guys from DSO rock, they're really awesome and easy going Had lots of fin!
And yea, I always carry tons of pencils and my Moleskine, it's running out of pages tho! 3 more to go! I need to get a new one, soon!

@Zentrope: Thanks a bunch for dropping by and for your kind words! Ah, about the deathmatch, the official announcement has been made and it seems this year the participants will be in groups! Here's the post they did over at Facebook:

Aaaand, that's me right there :P It seems the rules for the deathmatch have been changed! They haven't made more announcements yet, they've just set a lot of groups of participants, will keep you all updated on this

Yea, I've been having some harsh thoughts on my Master's Degree, specially since it's not a challenge anymore, neither intellectually nor artistically, however I'm not quitting, it may get better soon and I wanna be part of it

Anyway, Here's a little WIP on something I'm working on for a friend, he asked me to do a cartoon painting of his family. It was kind of a challenge, I'm not used to drawing so many characters together! (This I must change and practice upon!) Anyway, here's my daily update for today:

Initial pencil sketch. Very quickly done, not paying much attention but just getting a grasp of the composition and where everyone will be

Houston, we have reached Digital! Made a lot of adjustements and started tracing out stuff that were missing from the initial sketch. So far, the dad and the oldest daughter are almost fully traced, so Mom and baby girl are next! I'll start working on painting after I'm done with that step.

Any C&C's are most welcome, thanks a lot for reading!

                    YAY JUAN! YAY.

I think you need to remove those lines underneath the daughter's eyes, it makes her look older when she's supposed to be a child. Otherwise, looks great!

Totally just realized I could have said this to you over skype but oh well, have a comment instead. ^_^
