I created an account to finally do one of these, but I'm not sure if I'll have the time. We'll see what I can muster tonight.

      Default Soldier Girl? Concept WIP!

My first painting WIP! Let the roller coaster begin! I'm welcoming any
      critiques and advice!

I was inspired by the dominance of a woman and their equality to
participate as a soldier. My concept is futuristic era during a planet
      invasion.

First time doing this. I don't feel like I'm close to being as good as any of you guys, but Imma take the shot.

I was thinking about how to do this piece in terms of idea and composition interestingly. Something that wasn't a Great dramatic/static pose, or an action shot of say someone dragging another soldier. I toyed around in my sketchbook, and I settled on the idea of a (sci-fi) soldier getting her morning coffee break interrupted by explosive shells hitting her fox hole.

Hopefully this WIP is conveying that. I'm working with an awkward camera angle, so if anyone can help me with perspective/foreshortening and how to make this overall better, THAT'D BE SUPER AWESOME!

Since this is my first time, I might simplify it for myself and remove the
child. What are everyone's thoughts on that?

Perhaps? Your intitial still looks sort of . . . vague. Admittingly perhaps omitting the child may help the focus more.

Right, no scenery or purpose without the soldiers outfit designed could
remove the approach. Thanks a bunch :D I needed that! I feel a bit stuck
painting because I am new to it. Just going to try my best over the next
              two weeks!

PandaProductions: Nice comcept, think the forshortening is a little off though as well as the head being small. I think you could change the viewpoint and composition so it looks really dynamic perhaps more of an arial view so the viewer can see what is coming. Right now its just a little central and flat.

Starexai: It is a nice pinup type image (the child with the giant scary head aside) but I'm not really getting the 'soldier' vibe from it to be honest. It looks like a pinup picture (which isn't bad) but its hard to tell what is happening. All there is, is a woman, a baby and some kinda a weird mirror type thing. I think if you were doing an invasion especially a planatery one a more environmental wider scope shot would work better. The best pictures really tell a story or supply enough information for the viewer to make their own. If you can show it to someone new and they can give you a notion of what is going on in the picture then you will have succeeded

Zoppy: Looking good, though I think you could push the values more so it doesnt look quite so flat as well as adding more colour as its abit grey at the moment. Looking forward to where this one is going

Santo: Great start, reckon you could push the composition a little more to make it more dynamic though.

gwfdesigns: Great start, nice values and concept. The anatomy is looking a little off I think, his legs seem overly short.

This is my start at a future soldier. Idea being interrogation. Tell me what you think.

I was about to do the same idea, but now I'll do something different, as Poppy Day conmemorates the end of WWI (The great one) in the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month (looks like a Hollywood screenwriter went back in time) I'll something about those times, WWI, hopefully

As you have the pose, why don't you try to block it in boxes, it's a good way to get the right perspective and proportional shapes.

Hey guys thanx for all the comments and inspiration,

after alot of thought and sketches I thought hmmmm soldier/boy, so I came up with the idea of a soldier with a little boy in his rucksack and leave the story up to the audience

First sketch, I don't know about it, maybe it's too much, a soldier being wounded, maybe I should approach it other way... or leave it, what do you think?

                          Cheers!!
