Default Wacom Cintiq 15X PL-550 - Worth it or not?

Greetings, all! I'm on the hunt for info regarding this older model of lcd tablet by Wacom. I've spotted some on eBay for roughly $400 which seems like a steal when compared to the $2k you pay for the larger models, which I just cannot afford.

I am wondering if anyone has any first hand experience with this tablet and can tell me if it's decent or not? I currently use an Intuos3 graciously donated by a friend, but I'm finding my hand-eye coordination is not so good, equaling very squiggly lines.

I am also a traditional artist transitioning over to digital art and the transition has been a rough one so far, even with a good tablet. So the notion of an affordable cintiq is a very tempting one! Though I understand this particular model of Cintiq has half the pressure sensitivity of my Intuos3. I wonder how much of a difference this might make?

Any input you guys could provide would be most helpful!

there are very different oppinions about cintiques. One say its the best thing ever, other sont like it at all.
the monitor quality isnt as high as a real monitor and the touch is not as accurate as a usual wacom tablet, but the way of painting is just different.

The best advice is: Go to a shop or a place where you can test one out and see for yourself if you like it or not.

agree with it. Because everyone tell you separate review about it. May b its works fine with some people an d it didn't work well for others people. There are mix reviews you will get, so best option is go to the shop and have a look on all this series.

I wanted to follow up on my post and say that I made a decision! I ended up going with the Cintiq 12WX after researching the 15 in. one and finding out that it only has half the sensitivity levels of the usual tablets and that it was also meant mainly for business presentations.

What actually proved the most useful (besides studying specs) was looking up video reviews on YouTube so I could see the spatial scale of artist to tablet and how the workspace worked for them. The 12WX already has the same amount of pressure levels of the Intuos3 I had, so I knew the performance would be similar.

Unfortunately, not too many places around here have demos of equipment like this, so this was the closest I was going to get!

The most useful vid I found was this one:

As far as snagging one for a good price, I hunted them down on eBay till I was able to get one for $680! Took me six tries and use of a sniping tool (justsnipe.com), but it was well worth it I'd say!

Now I'm on the hunt for a bag since I want to keep the cintiq box in good condition. The best I've been able to find, though certainly not the cheapest OUCH, is the official bag from Cintiq which has room for the Cintiq, all its cables, and a slot for a laptop. Though I'm open to suggestions if anyone's found a specific brand that will do the same?

I hope this info helps out anyone else who might be hunting for a Cintiq! Happy hunting to you!
