    Thanks again. A new day and a new bunch of studies.
    I really like doing these. The first one usually takes a little longer until you got warmed up, but then its fun. ^^

    Time for some sun !

        @Kherns: Thanks, glad you like it.
        @malo: Yo again ^^

        here some tries on night and dark motives. Pieces with really dark parts or almost no light give me a lot of trouble and soft gradients too. ^^

        I think most people now who made the orignal piece (Cryptcrawler)^^
        http://cryptcrawler.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d2izi3q

        This was hard. Not only the really soft gradients but the greyish colors. I really had to use the picker on this one, because my personal guess was so far off...

          Good MORNING everyone.

          Want to ask, how do you do from life studies in color? Watercolor is a nice sketching media, but too vague when you want to get something realistic. Oils would be the most accurate, but I never really used them and I am kinda scared of them ^^° Nintendo DS? Or a small laptop with a small tablet?

            Misplacedhippos:It get difficult with watercolors/Gouache when you want to paint at night or bad light situations. There you would have to carry a white light with you I guess.

            I took a minute during a night walk yesterday and looked at a scenery and made this sketch from memory.

            These dark colors seem to bring either my monitor or the JPG format to its limits. XD

            Hey Vaejoun,
            great updates, mate! Really dig the studies!!
            For the dark one - try to use some neutral grey values for the highlights in the shadow area- This will define the shape and keeps it dark. Or - depends on the overall color theme you heading for - use a bit of blueish grey.

            Dark values are really hard to read for different screens. And - it always depends if your screen is calibrated or not. Their s really no option to justify it in a proper way that everyone will see it as you see it. Next thing is that only firefox is able to read and display color profiles - example: if you work in Adobe RGB 98, firefox will keep the information and display it as close as possible to your original. Other browser just show your work in sRGB - what i a way smaller color space.

            Keep it up! Last post looks pretty cool, mate!

              @Malo: Thanks, didnt know about the different browsers till now. Dark pieces are always a problem as it seems.
              @Cheo: A cam is good to remember a little, but of course its no real replacement for the real thing. Especially in the dark.

              Some stuff from my actual sketchbook. I always love animals and creature design.

              This is a lovely sketchbook, Vaejoun. I really love that sunlit street where you have analysed the light and shadows and not just copied them, I mean, I learnt a lot from just reading your note. And it's something I've never tried. The creature stuff is looking great too!

              As for painting outside, can't say I'd recommend DS too much, I found it pretty hard, worth at least trying before you take the plunge and buy. I'm looking to get some kind of tablet PC at some point, there are really good Fujitsu ones, with I think 512 levels of pretty and wacom enabled - but they're pricey!

                  @Malo: The last piece is Photoshop, the others are watercolors or acrylics.
                  @Cheo: Thanks man
                  @Noro: Cool, mal jemand aus der Gegend ^^

                  Here a study for a personal piece. One evening I watched outside of the window and saw a lantern throwing an interesting light on a tree and suddenly I had the idea of a goblin like creature mixed with an owl and a bat sitting on top of it and catching birds with its long arms.

                  To make it a little more than just a for fun piece, I decided to go at this more like on an actual job and started with some face studies.
                  Let me hear what you think.
