    Arrow ME Sketchbook

    Hello everyone.
My name is Markus Erdt and I am a starting illustrater and hopefully concept artist soon too. ^^

I've been around this forum for quite some time now, looking here and there. Totally mind blowing hom many really good artists are around here.
    Coming from CA.org.

Last week I participated in the anatomicae challenge and so I think its time to start a SB here as well.
To show some stuff and get some feedback.
I really want to get better and on the "pro"- level.

    Some photo studies

Cool stuff, I recognised your scythe from browsing the anatomicae forum, its cool to see you participating in the challenges. (I should too!)

The pug piece gave me a chuckle, and your studies are really nice and show potential and willingness to learn, plus studies from animals too! Keep it up, I look forward to seeing more.

Tank you all again. Encouraging to hear some nice words once in a while. ^^
Right now I feel like I am really close to where I want to be, I can make my pieces look really nice, they just lack the awesomness that all the "pros" have. But I guess thats a question of practice.

Here some other I did the last days.
The girl was fun because I was just messing around without aiming for a realistic look, the pope was a photo study and the last one is a Ghost in the shell fanart. Batou looks good but something is missing... Color, value, edges?

                  Hey there

LOL!!!! The comics are awesome!!! dig it, dude!!
Hmm - about portraits. I think its a good approach to paint the background brighter on the shadow side and darker on the bright side. I know it doesn't makes sense light wise. But this tiny lil' effect will add a lot of depth into your portraits.
                  Just my 2 cents

                  Cheers

Thanks Cheo, I do this comic stuff once in a while when a nice idea pops up in my head. Its always a lot of fun to do. ^^

What now... how about some process sketches?
For the Rift colossus contest. Link to my blog: http://me-artbook.blogspot.com/2011/05/rift-colossus.html

The topic was to design a boss character for the MMO RIFT to one of the elements of the game: Fire, water, wind, earth, life and death.

My first "life" attempts: I still kina like the flair, but for the game it wasnt clear enough and the boobs could have made problems.

This one was another attempt. A good example of why you should get the basic drawing right before going any furter.... I screwed the anatomy up pretty much. ^^° Was for the life aspect as well.

And the WIPS for the 3 final versions I went with.
