    Default Art of SourAcid

Like most, been lurking a long time around the site and have decided to get into the forums here. Trying to get out my box that i sit in, in the corner, and share my work with as many people as i can and maybe with luck get a crit or two to help me progress faster. Also hoping that in the not so distant future i can make some pocket money from this hobby ^_^

I'm still very lost as to where i want to focus my art trade. For now i'll say illustration, while i work more on story telling to be a comic artist or concept artist. Eventually i would like to be able to do projects under all three categories.

Just some of my recently completed works. I should have updates every week, maybe once or twice. (i'll try not make it all studies and actual personal work.)

-1-4 -- a small unDead series i finished a month or so back
-Rough character design i did for a sketch group.
-Trying my hand at a creature (i'm sure we can all see where the inspiration came from :P )
-Speed painting 1.5 hours, with reference

You've a strong use of colors tones. I like how you've styled the third piece so strongly. And your use of texture in the second.

When working make sure to double check your lighting. In the first portrait, the liquid would highlight the hair. The orange light (Third image) would extend further.

IE. Bottom eye lids, some of the hair, etc.

There is a similar problem with the wolf.

In your character design, she looses her neck. The shoulder can be lowered to solve this.

I enjoy your creature design. But the rocks don't pick up any of the colors around it.

No problems with your portrait study. The tones are well done. I love how you've rendered the face.

Keep up the good work. Keep posting.

@Vor - Thank you, I've just started to study light and color now, (been kind of winging it up till this point.) Thank you so much for the kind words and the useful feedback, it shall be used wisely (I might just have to go back and make some of those changes with regards to the lighting)

The portrait study was great fun and rendered that way to try stop myself over painting and polishing everything, still have lots of practice to do but i'll keep posting progress and sharing for sure.

painting from last night, trying paint faster and stretch my brain without using references. Going to try get at least one painting done a night. (i only have 5 hours to paint, so got to make it count ^_^)

Didn't plan this color wise and i suffered for that in the end. :/

Nice sketches, keep it up. I like the green little forest creature.

If I can give some advice, try to take some more care about the focus and edges. In post#4 you want the focus on the face I guess, but the very sharp edged chains are taking a lot away, same does the black hard edged part in the lower left corner, it has a veeery hard contrast and is distracting.
The girl afterwards is already way better with that dark shadow directly by her face.

Keep it up, cool stuff man.

@Vaejoun, thanks for the input, it's amazing how i knew something was wrong but i couldn't put my finger in (with regards to post #4) I'm slowly learning about focal points and composition now and paying more attention when working on images. Thanks again, appreciate the time you took to leave a crit

@cheo36, thanks, as requested more portraits below ^_^

@malo, Thank you, i'm always trying to push to the next level ... still feel like i'm struggling to get off the ground.

                -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some paintings i completed on my holiday and while away from my source of internet .

                1. Started my Death Note Series, i plan to do between 8-10 paintings in the series just as a personal project. So first up is L. I struggled with this, without any reference so i must try search more for my next one and work on my planning of my images before diving into them.

                2. A color version of an earlier post, apart from the few errors i can see, i am pretty happy with the way it came out. I also found it so much easier working from the B&W image than starting in color. ( new lesson learned )

                3. Is my entry into the ILLUSTRATED - Tarot Card challenge. wish i had more time, but only had 3 days to work on it. With that said though i had fun and enjoyed the challenge and that is all i did it for

Thank you for all the comments and feed back everyone

Not a lot of work to update, gone back to studies of fundamentals, and most of what i have made is looking terrible. This was a 4 -5 hours painting from last night, will still work further on it.

Just wanted to post an update on my SB (i'm still alive)

I'm going to try do more enviro's, definitely a weak point, but having so much to work on all around with my work.

The piece in the last post was scrapped, and i started over. I'm aware, after a break from the piece, that the one character has some muddy skin happening; i'm going change that up tonight when i try finish this piece.

Added some sketches from my sketchbook too this time, will try get more, i only scan once a week from my sketch book (such a mission setting up my scanner) Trying to break out of old habits with a new sketchbook so more to come on Monday from the sketchbook.

*don't hate on me, yes my sketches have a big anime/manga influence....i had a tainted childhood :P*

@Malo, Thanks. Yeah i want to try my hand at a comic / graphic novel so been trying to get my penciling better and seeing how i would clean up the lines for "inking". There could be some street art influence there ^_^ i used to try be a graf artist, it was some good fail time (cans were to expensive and i sat drawing to much). My enviro's are much to be desired but i'll keep working to improve them thanks for the support.

@cheo36, Thanks, i should have more sketches coming, and more paintings (i got to get more done, i feel like a slacker and work to slow.)

                      ----------------------------------------------------

This piece is challenge me so much. I decided not to use reference and push myself. The more i work on it the more errors i see. Mellow (the tall character) his anatomy is of still :/ but i think i'm happier with the more lively colors. i just need to fix the over kill contrast. But i think i should really pull some refs for this.

So many excuses and not enough work being done :P my bad, i'll flip the coin and work harder now ^_^ to keep the updates rolling.

hey prox - good stuff buddy!!! i think the guy on the right needs his shoulder just a tad bigger? simple shape of a shoulder is usually a sphere then comes down as a cylinder for the bicep and tricep.... but overall its looking great! keep pushing it...if ur still learning while making it dont stop that process!
