@Sleepfight: Sorry, wasnt meant in any offensive way if that how it felt to you. I was just curious, because it really looks like a filtered photo. (At least I was right on the filter as you said ^^) I would like to see this piece without the filters added.
Keep it up, looking for more.

Vaejoun> i prefer your quick sketch before , the camera was lower > meaning more immersive and dynamic . For the sadows parts u can go with more staturated colors too the light bouncing on the bright wall and groung could give some nice color variation imo

@asashi superdry: That happens often, I make a nice sketch and while working it out I go further and further away until I reach I ppoint where I just redo it to some point where it is closer to the sketch again.
Here a step I liked... until I saw a face in there. (It cant be unseen) ^^° And after I went closer to the initial sketch again. I think its taking shape, only the light from the door is giving me headache.

Hey there!
Great things here, I am really impressed. At the moment I just think about joining this competition. Seems to be really fun! Never did environment before and usually I do not use Photoshop (I prefer ink) - but hey! Learn what you don't know, mh? But before I show you one of my first sketches I have some basic questions for you. - What kind of brush do you use? - Is there any trick for "rendering" the thing? I mean the details and stuff - How big is your image? - How do you create this kinda soft contrast? Thanks a lot! Greetings and respect, Muun |

@Muun:
- What kind of brush do you use? I like some chalk or oil like brushes but there are enough guys that prefer a common round, ellypitical or even squared brush. It really comes down to which you like. - Is there any trick for "rendering" the thing? I mean the details and stuff Dont knwo if I get what you want to know... how about this: Work from big to small, get the overall values and shapes right before adding any detail (like in my last post, there are no details in there yet) - How big is your image? I would say at least 2000 pix on the long side on 150 dpi. In the thumbnail and sketching phase it might as well be smaller and later sized up. - How do you create this kinda soft contrast? Soft contrast? Do you mean soft edges betwenn forms? Or just that two colors dont differ much (like on a greyish day or in a very dark surrounding) Hope it helps. Just start drawing/ painting, you will get a feedback in any case.

Vaejoun > if i had to choose betwenn the 2 i' would say tge second , thought i feel your sketch really awsome , you should start from it .
What u could try is with a quick brightness contrast try to push all the darker gray close to a 50% grey , then with an overlay layer on top put quick values and work from here. Then you would keep the sketch intact and your compo too. After it's all a matter to paint normally on a normal laye ron top ! But yeah your sktech was definitely way over those ones. ![]() For now... ![]() |

@Asahi: Looking at your other stuff, I bet this is gonna be a goldpiece when its finnished. Looks alreads really sweet. Great textures and details. Maybe make the wood part with the 2 shield at the right a little darker/ lower in contrast, right now its a little distracting.
@Cursed: Give it a try and see what you can do in such a short time. Again, I spent way too much time on this one, at least I found a new interesting way to bring color into a b/w sketch (I hope overlay is the right word , I only have the german PS ^^) After some rendering, smudging and stuff, this is where I am right now. Feels promising.

Vaejoun> yeaaah that cool i think it gonne looks very good , theoverlay mode works well but e carefull it tend to desaturate a bit the colors , either u paint on top of it or u resaturate your piece wit level and stuff
![]() Cursed>Ithink the left one was the best actually it really shows depth ... more than the one u choosed ![]() keep on here is my final i think some tweaks here and there ![]() ![]() |
