@JohnSilva:is it ok to use self created 3d samples and is ok to use references from other artists or only photos?

asahi-superdry- , Super nice so far, its ok to add some people or objects, that will give a sense of how big this is in comparison

htkpeh, Its ok to use 3d samples/reference from other artists to give you inspiration, but mainly you will want to use photo references since that will help you get things even more believable, also if you post inspiration references make sure you link them to the proper owner

        keep them going guys!

              Talking Machine Alley

Decided on a machine alley. Right after college I worked in a HUGE factory that worked on tanks, heavy artillery, communication gear and such and I was always amazed when I stepped out onto the "main" floor because it was so big that it made you feel like you were outside. So I could imagine these type of factories that people could live in...Maybe some outpost in space where all the workers get a 2 year rotation so they must remain there....

There is a lot of good reference material for this but I just grabbed a few that I like the materials and lighting for. For what I have so far its mainly just blocked in masses but I'm not sure exactly if this is what I want.

@htkpeh: Looks really confusing right now, looking forward for the next step.
@Asahi: Man these bended iron things are crazy^^
@Sleepfight: Looks promising, was that an edited photo montage you used there as a start? Look out for a good size feel / comparison, right now the human just looks dwarfed.
I think that might be because there are no really small details in it yet.

So heres my stuff. After a lot of scribbles I decided to go for some arab like alleyway. A lot of sun and a more decend 2nd light coming from an open door. Maybe there is an open window inside there or a candle?

Refs: I love Gerome, really cool stuff with all that arabian motives.

Sleepfight, Great start but i'm wondering is that photos put together or everything is legit painted?

Vaejoun, nice man, i think either candle or windows works just fine, tho the candle its pointles in such a bright day, so perhaps a window would be a better choice?

                keep them comming guys!

Trying to pin down values and colors. I dont think I can achieve this ultra realistic look like some pros do.

Difficult light shadow situation, in strong l/s contrast you can usually just see well in one of both areas, in the strong light or the shadow. I think I will go with the light, because its in the focus.

How far does reflected light from the ground reach up? Does it fill the whole room or just a few meters? Tricky
