Feel free to post any work you did for the challenge, alola! The same goes for anyone else- We'd love to see what everyone came up with for this challenge.

Cheo36: Love it, love it, love it. First of all I want to comment on the huge jump between this offering and your last Anatomicae entry. Your sense of lighting, texture, and color is much stronger and unified, and very apparently improved despite the fact that this is a much more simple picture than your Mars landscape piece.

Thematically speaking, this is a very solid cyber-punk/junk-punk offering. The most striking part of the design is its strange, torqued silhouette. Generally speaking its shape alone adds a lot of visual interest to a rote scythe design. The mechanical bits and parts are rendered very nicely, with a great sensitivity to detail. The exhaust pipes are an especially nice touch. The blade itself is interesting because..well, there are quite a few ''standard'' ways you see things like 'energy' and 'light' painted, which you see repeated between artists. Your rendition is not something i've seen before, and the mix of purple, reds, and greens works surprisingly well. It goes a look way in defining this as an infernal weapon.
One thing: Experiment with deeper color saturations! This works very well, but you might enjoy dropping in some -really- thick acid greens into the blade. It would brighten things up considerably. Then, all you would have to do is do a few passes with a Dodge brush to pick up that more intense light on the machinery.

Vaejoun Out of all the participants, your prep work and sketches were the most interesting (to me at least!) It cool to see you work your way through multiple silhouettes and designs. I think you chose well for your final image.

Specific, tight rendering is obviously one of your strong suits. The level of detail on the head of the blade is beautiful- And you did a very solid job in keeping the entire design consistent through use of its banded lines. The whole thing is very solid and architectural in an elegant way, and would fit in -perfectly- for any asset design portfolio- and I think it would translate very well into a useable 3d model. (The mechanics of the swinging lantern might cause a bit trouble in that regard, but it's still a great aesthetic touch.)
Keep up the great work. You definitely have a talent for striking weapon design, and obviously don't mind taking risks.

witmann-art Your design is great in its solid simplicity. It's great that you executed a design that holds itself up on some very basic but strong design decisions- The vertebrae shaft and skull top goes a long way in making this a good design, despite not being dressed up with a whole lot of bells and whistles. Bells and whistles are great, but I think you were well served in keeping the noodly bits to a minimum, so our eye immediately rests on the vertebrae and skull.

I think John had some good ideas with his paintovers, and you carried over well into the final execution. I will admit that I am a bit confused about the material the black part of the shaft is made of- It seems to be a slip of animal skin? Regardless of the ambiguity you executed some nice subtle texture work there.
As you move forward for future designs or illustrations, rely on your good sense of weight and proportion. Despite its gristly parts the entirety is surprisingly easy on the eyes- and it demonstrates that you have a solid grasp of shape, form, weight- all that good stuff. All in all I think this was a very good entry.

htkpeh: You have a good eye for texture. This design is deceptively simple, but your concept for the soul receptacle is a fun and interesting way to lend greater depth to the design. That is the strongest part of this piece, and you nailed the rendering of it- It seems suitably organic, of good form, and is suitably gross.
Of all the entrants yours conveys the clearest sense of age. It definitely comes across as a relic of supernatural origin, what with that strong sense of twisting lines in the shaft and the ragged blade. I wonder if maybe the blade isn't a bit -too- varied in its shape and material- those minute bits of broken edge combined with the cut-out parts makes it seem rather delicate for its job. Of course, it keeps the entire design consistent, so you may disagree with my feeling on it.

All in all this is a strong entry, made interesting by your going the extra mile to incorporate a soul receptacle in the design. Keep up the good work.

parpica Out of all entries, yours is my favorite in terms of its sense of humor and believable, tongue-in-cheek design. It's very true to the spirit of today's big, DIY zombie games- I could totally see this as being an end-game weapon for a game of that genre.

Strangely enough, with the inclusion of the power saw and chainsaw, this design strikes me as the most immediately dangerous and intimidating. The use of common, everyday items makes this design very easy to imagine ''in action''- which wouldn't be a pretty sight, and bound to leave the user with a bit of red on them.
You've obviously got a great sense of form and volume. Everything reads very well, and you accomplished a lot with some pretty simple rendering techniques. At the time of my writing this I've yet to check out your portfolio to see if you've done any video game work, but this is a pretty excellent example of a good, workable design that is clear and informative as an asset design. You've definitely a knack for it

Sleepfight: It's pretty easy to see that your entry was the most ambitious in terms of turning the idea ''scythe'' on its head. As a whole the image is presented in a very stylish manner, which seems to be your strong suit from your portfolio. The design itself is very interesting to look at, and I lingered for a pretty long time looking it over. Your choice of repeating shapes, of unusual curves, is definitely courageous.

With the addition of your scaling image on page 2 it becomes much easier to picture this in action. I still admit a bit of confusion of my end when it comes to understanding the mechanics of the blade, though it is cool you included another design showing it with the blade dissipated or retracted.
Your style is very unique. You've obviously have a lot of big ideas and an eye for detail- I would caution you though that sometimes such complex designs might confuse the layman. That isn't at all a negative against you, but keep in mind that concepts that are so completely stand-alone on their uniqueness can be hard to grasp at a glance. :3

Blindrat: Yours was my pick for the winner of this challenge.

I love the quality of your rendering- it's so crisp and easy to read, and shows you were pretty confident about your subject matter. The design in and of itself -is- pretty simple, but it has just enough bells and whistles (and subtle notes of detail) to arrest the eye and make it pleasing to look at. Then again, as a rule anything is more interesting and cool if you strap an animal skull to it X3
            Keep up the great work.
