Does anyone have a solution to the following problem:

1. Enter Autodesk Maya 2011. (I am operating an educational version that's the whole package, just has warnings, etc)
2. Create a CV curve line.
3. Select the Selection Tool, then attempt to select the newly made CV Curve.
---> The scene window becomes solid gray, and then after several seconds or actions, Autodesk Maya 2011 will proceed to crash.

I tried reinstalling my Radeon HD 5830, but no dice.

This has been really frustrating me since I'm following a simply polygonal train model tutorial in "Introducing Maya 2011" by Dariush Derakhshani. It's sorta perturbing me that I can't follow this simple tutorial, hahaha . . . /sigh.
