Some cool lookin' entries getting a start here... Juan, really nice start with that super bulky silhouette he'd have! Glad I decided not to go sword over shoulder too! Be careful with the shapes in the wings... I'd maybe try to keep them that bulky, just maybe look up the major shapes of wings and how they unfold... to keep some believability in there.

Nice to see you in here too Ang... some nice initial starts, and cool to see some actiony types poses too (something I confess I'm too lazy to do when it comes to full body armor). Really like the feel of the bottom right piece. , would love to see that full body with the same perspective.

vnmribaya: nice start, and i like the idea of the more mechanised looking wings, and the fact you cant see his face... for some reason that appeals to me as it means the viewer gets to decide what he looks like under there. Try thinking about how the wings might unfold, and overlay each other to get that definitely grounded sense of something achievable (even in the fantastical).

Jan: yours is currently feeling much more demonic than angelic, with the scrawnier figure and uber spikey designs... if i didn't know the challenge was an arch angel I'd be hard pressed to guess that's what it was. No reason you can't go spikey, but bear in mind what people tend to think of when they think of angelic - you could balance some of the spikey out with more rounded or smooth areas in the armor too, or even go more rounded in the wing design to counter balance the armor.

Just my 2cents guys, take with a pinch of salt as always

Here's mine. Totally cliche, but hell with it, I love the traditional vision of angelic warriors, with gleaming armor, proud stance and ready to kick the butt of demonic evil all round. Am considering doing this in traditional media, to fit in with the style of a couple of previous pieces I've done featuring angels: Here

    Default Archangel wip

Thought I'd have a go at this one. Heres an early wip. not sure if its 'angelic' enough at the moment. Currenty brightening it up a bit and adding more decorations to the armor.

Re-worked the wings. This archangel is harder than I thought, I might take this version to line work and clean it up, still in the concept stage. Crits welcome!!

Quick update for me. Threw a few colours around in PS on top of the lineart, and have settled on this colour scheme, to make it something a little less cliche. Plus I have real colour love of blues and corally oranges! Lors alone knows how I'm gonna reproduce this in watercolour! O.o

Sharko - I'm curious as to why the horn motif? It does make it read less angelic, but then the wings pull it back again! Either way he looks like he's ready to call trouble, and you've a nice start on the render of the metal.

JS - Liking those wings better.. as you're contemplating going back to lnie work, I did a quickie paintover that started as a suggestion for the wings, but then got a little carried away.. apologies! I tweaked a couple of other things like his head and leg position so he felt a little more grounded. Also darkened the whole thing down and went back in with an overlay layer and white to bring certain parts of him back to that brilliant white, to make him glow. All suggestions mind, not sure where you're headed with him, but he's cool!

        Hi all,
Just heard about this topic. Hoping i'll get it done in time.
I've start off my sketches yesterday+this morning with iPad SketchBookPro. Generating quick idea.

For the appearance of my version of angle I'd love to make him a bit different then classical style (which is my weakness and need time to study/research) I've decided to go crazy about this but remain in the safe area that the guideline/topic had define.

I want to reimagine the idea of angel that they are a divine bio-mech But still have a part of human organ too.

Most of all I want his overall form to be different then human.

        Here's first sketches of thumbnails

Enlarge and give him some face

Not so works with this proportion..

this one also... not look quite like an angel

Ended up enlarging my best thumbnail and sketch over it.

I'll still have to define more characteristic of his face/hood/helmet and yeah design a sword for him.

Hopefully I'll able to get him into some scenario and finish this one in time!

for any c&C Thanks so much in advanced

Should there be a high level of detail so that a modeler would be able to remake it in 3D.
Or should it be more of a cool pose & design, but withouth an emphasise on detail?

I understand it to be a warrior. But also he is about the arts and kindness. So not a badass then.

That last pose is much more engaging as a viewer, vnmribaya! Feels a lot more solid too... I'd go with that one!

Default Uriel Redesign WIP by Angela R. Sasser

Snatched an hour or so to doodle on this challenge! I took the pose from the bottom right of my first doodle sheet to see where I could go with it.

I ended up going more traditional medieval-ish armor this time. Trying to strike a balance between a fearsome being who also exudes creative energy (thus the rose forming from nothingness in his hand). I imagine he is appearing to the dreaming artist and telling them never to let the flame of inspiration die!

Though I might have to come back with a modern armored angel just for kicks next!

I really like some of the less humanoid entries I'm seeing. It's fun to see what fine line between the idea of 'angelic' and 'demonic' we can walk with just a few details, as well as doing something a little less generic than ye olde winged hunk in armor (as much as I do so love my winged armored hunks )

            Default Update!!

Just continue detailing large detail first

Start placing Uriel into the scene. Futuristic-Utopia style I think. gotta study more on this kinda setting.

Reposing him to point the sword onto the puny artist and handling the odd glowing globe thing.

And also I've plan to use the wings as a part of composition to make this piece look kind and at the same time engaging.

            Any comment please
@Angella very nice line works!! great posture too.
@roarti Awesome how can i missed this idea! dual sword!!
@vnmribaya Thanks man, I love your stylization of the wings also, very unique!

              Default Archangel redesign

Hey guys so after my first failure I tried to come up with this angel design.... Ill add wings later and paint the armor in...
So what do you guys think so far? It would be really helpfull to hear some comments on this one.

Zephyri, looks like from a comic so far, although cliche I like it lot!

Vnmbraj: Very cool painterly approach!!! Keep it on!
