Default Creature Planets CPA #49 :: Obduro Creatura

Name: banner49.jpg

Welcome to the Creature Planets, the CG HUB challenge of exploring worlds beyond our own!

Topic #49 :: Obduro Creatura :: August 31, 2011

Deadline: Wednesday Sep 21, 2011 - 11:59p.m. [PST]

Challenge Overview:
We've reached our 49th Creature Planets challenge, and with it comes change. The team at CGhub has decided to do it big for #50, which includes a name change! So since #49 will be the Creature Planets, we've decided to have a epic 3 week challenge! (Should be a good warmup for #50 which will be even bigger!)

Your task:
We would like to see a full out illustration with a creature of your original design! The only restriction is that the creature has to be illustrated in its full environment. Now we don't want to see a cool creature with just some trees in the background, we expect to see clearly how that creature fits into the planet of your choosing. Try to be original and think outside of the "Earth" box. Try a gas giant, frozen tundra, molten rock, acid oceans... be creative. Remember, design your environment, and your creature around it! Piece of cake!

Restrictions:
In order for your submission to count, you must show your wip in this thread, if you come out of the blue with an illustration in the finals thread, we cannot know if its something you drew previous to this challenge. (Since this is a very open round)

Let's see off Creature Planets with a bang!

Good Luck! And remember to have fun!

“Please don't keep everything secret, working on your image in private only to post it at the very last hour as a surprise. The point of sharing sketches and work in progress material is so everyone can learn from each other, receive crits, compliments and improve their skills in a classroom/workshop like environment. There are no teachers and no students per say, but try to offer help to others when possible. Please be open to receiving crits, and paint-overs or mock ups of your work, as we are all here to participate, have fun, learn, grow and enjoy what each week has to offer.” --Mike Corriero

For some reason my backwards brain thought this was #50, oh well, I'll probably be there too.
Progress. Wish I'd saved at different intervals but there was not much to the creature design in the roughing out.

Got my power back just in time it seems!
Quick question though, are we limited to one creature or can we have 2 or more in said illustration?

@KingWrex: Interesting perspective, great foreshortening and rendering of head and claws so far

@Scorge: Great creature design. Right now it feels like the enviro is competing somewhat with it for attention though

@Mellon: Really nice lineart, looking forward to seeing its progress

@Givera: Interesting creatures (especially like the one drinking). Will be interesting to see wher you'll take it

Wel then, diving straight into my first CP. Haven't got much to show yet though.

Eventually it's supposed to become a Clephadar, a friendly creature that is known for climbing giant stalactites far above the sulfur seas of Sylfarius...

          Comments & Crits much apprechiated

Made some serious adjustments and here it sits.

Thanks for the comments and great advice Mellon and Mindbender! (My wife picked the orange).

Anyway, I'm moderately happy with it at this stage. If you guys see anything really bugging you please let me know.

I was not happy with previous steps, sooo have made some changes ,here`re my nooby creatures =)...

Scorge, sweet guy you have, but I think you need to do background more blurer,so we can see the creature on the foreground..All in all make grounds

Scorge: This is a very strange, cool creature. Perhaps you can darken the background a bit, that the view is more focused on the creature!

Heres my first WIP, hope i can finsih this. Its the Eageater!
