Thank God, I think I broke an artistic wall today.

I actually felt . . . good about this after I stopped wailing and painting away at this (below)

and a page from my sketchbook

careful of your values. The values of different materials appear differently. her face looks made of metal with the sudden value jumps.

      here's a quick paintover

@Camske GAAA!!! I should not have missed that value issue. /smackingheadagainsttable Thanks for the paintover, helped me a lot retooling a lot of the crap I did.

do you guys think I could turn this into like a psuedo-Star Wars novel cover and add more elements to make the sketch into a full portf. piece? This thing is enslaving me (like beckoning cheese cake) to continue rendering it out (even though i intended it to be at most a several day on/off sketch)

So, have not posted frequently because I've been waiting for pages to fill, and I don't like wasting paper constantly. (it costs money!)

But here's a BIG sketchbook deluge of the past couple of weeks. Some of it's just personal sketchbook, others work for a game called Tales from the Minus Lab.

I feel terrible I don't render any of my sketches really. . . all I do is contours and lines -__- Is that bad?

A photo study started early Sunday morning, and then completed after Reality LA.

I think what frustrates me the most about figure drawing isn't so much the drawing itself, but the difficulty of having the ideal situation of a consistent, life drawing classes with an instructor of some sort providing valuable critique and engendering skill in anatomy and gestural stuff (and w/e else I need). Being a university student at USC, without a car, and very separated from Entertainment Design minded art people, I feel so alone in the craft. Thank God for that breath of air that was the gesture drawing class for one of the nights for my Animation Fundamental classes with Tom Sito.

I think what also upsets me is that I always have to thinking about moving forward with life drawing, as opposed to "keeping in practice" only, because I haven't worked professionally, I haven't been "proven." That compounded with the lack of available consistent life drawing (The campus Anatomical Drawing Society is somewhat ehh . . . we lack an instructor), I feel like I'm forced to work from photos, which is not ideal.

Anyways, here's the latter end of that gesture drawing session I had. Breath of fresh air, as it were. A moment of emotional peace that the person upstairs somehow provided.

Default It's been far too long

A SketchJam I did with several artists on the game team I was on for the past semester (Tales from the Minus Lab)

Sorry for not posting in a while, lots of things been happening, so it's been hard to keep updating my sketchbooks. I'm still in the process of scanning my physical sketchbook, so those posts should come soon during the summer.
