God of War.

Deadline: 22nd of August 2011 at noon GMT



Many cultures have a god of war sometime in their past but we want to see YOUR interpretation of just what a God of War looks like. Take inspiration from Ares the Greek god of war or perhaps Mars from the Romans or Odin of Norse myth. Perhaps a futuristic god or indeed a goddess.

I am sorry to correct you, but if anything, Odin is wisdom. He can also see and hear things through his ravens.

The war god is supposedly Ty, the best warrior is Tor, and the strongest one is Tors son Magne...

Ty is not that well known, but he was the god for war, justice and ting (kind of like congress). And, he's the reason Tuesday is named Tuesday...

Alright, I've been sketching a little for this and came out with this idea. Let me be clear, I want to create a nazi god of war. I'm not trying to hurt anyones feelings, nor I want to impose any ideoly. I just thought it would be a powerful topic to express my entry for this jam.

Here's a bit of what i've been working on today. I'm not sure where I'm going with this yet, I mighttttt scrap it.
This is my first Drawing Jam so bare with me, haha.
There's still a lot of fixing that needs to be done, especially the head piece, I just can't seem to get it right yet.
Anywaysss, critics are of welcome of course. :]
I can't wait to see what others come up with!

Wiki gods of war article says -

Norse mythology

Freyja, goddess associated with love, beauty, fertility, gold, seiğr, war, and death

Thor, god associated with thunder, strength, Lightning, defense, oaks, goats, lightning, storms, weather, crops, trading voyages, courage, trust, revenge, protection, warfare and battles

Valkyries, goddesses who decide who will die in battle and bring the dead to Valhalla, the afterlife hall of the slain

Which is why I said Odin (I know wiki isn't the most reliable but is best for a very quick overview) though Freyja, Tyr and technically Valkyries could also be counted as gods of war depending on your view. But there are so many I just picked a few well known ones to start the creative juices flowing hoping people will make their own god up rather than drawing one of the well known ones.

I'm in two minds about this one to be honest which is why I didn't reply before. I don't like to stifle peoples free expression/creativitiy. BUT the terms of service state

And some users could find this offensive. So I am going to ask one of the admins for an official response and will get back to you asap.

Personally, I think you could come up with a better idea one that would be interesting, fun to do and wouldn't offend anyone. So many cultures and gods that could be amalgamated into this epic god of war. Plus potentially having what could be considered nazi propaganda in your portfolio without good reason for wanting to tackle such a subject might put some people off.

I didn't see that in that way. You are right, and please if anyone felt offended about this, have in mind that it was not my intention at all. I'm not a neonazi, I just thought this would be a cool subject to draw.

No worries, I didn't find it offensive at all personally. I mean the God of War doesn't have to be a good person.
I do agree with kovah though on the fact that I think you could come up with something better. Or even pushing the idea you have into a different direction a little. Perhaps a "Nazi" in the future or of a different world? If you get my drift. >.<

hey guys, this topic sounds hella fun!!! Some aztec war god called "Huitzilopochtli" caught my attention, so I started with some research and did first sillhouettes! He usually wears a mirror and some weapon shaped as a snake. Sounds kinda cheesy but I think I will make him look cool

Curious before I start. Would it be possible to do a set of twin gods that together make up the aspect of war? Or does it have to be s single diety?
Also does said god have to be male?I ask as sometimes people use god for both genders and other times they'll use god/goddess.

Kfu: Admins have said that id you want to tackle a nazi god then they arent going to say no either. So if you wish to do one you can, but I would advise that you perhaps take it out of context like Amy-Lunar said and push the idea a little more.

Ratwell: The deity can be male or female or even none human. 'God or Goddess' of war' as a title didn't sound quite as catchy As long as the twin gods are in one image then that is fine, drawing jams topics are mainly here to get your creative juices flowing
