JohnSilva: Thanks for your reply. I can probably take a pic' of my cat skull, but I'll look for another creature type 'cause this design is not less human than that. I might go into different animal likeness instead too.

Pixel-chick: Glad my work can inspire you.

Cool idea, Yongs, I like the creature's name, too, hehe.

Here's another update, working on the skeleton first and then the muscles if I have time.

Cool wings Irir, I'm curious to see them from under skin.

JohnSilva: What kind of rendering are we looking for? Are we making for example a very polished skeleton, or polished muscle mass or what exactly?

Wow you guys are already rockin this thread, really awesome entries so far but remember everyone, as stated we are asking you to build a side view musculature with the bone of a creature as if you just ripped that creature's skin off, you can do a version with skin but for the FINALS YOU CAN ONLY POST THE SKINLESS VERSION.

Thank you for participating everyone so far, hope you're having fun, i will make comments on everyone later on.

                  Default Kind of sphinx

-Hi, I'm quite sure you can yue.
-Good work so far Smirtouille, keep it up.
-pixel-chick: Original, like the head. Night creature, living in a cave? You could think about how environement and daytime affect morphology. Dig those wings, and legs too.

Here's my lill' participation, I started with something like a baboon shape, just an outline, and got some kind of sphinx/cat/magical familiar at the end, I think I'll need some good ref, "wings" are weird.

Here are a pair of sketches, posted in some haste, because I just got back home, and it's been a long drive. They are traditional media 2D, as I'm making a kind of transition from physical painting to CG.

The idea is a sea dragon; a former aerial life form that has evolved to be a water dweller, in a way similar to a penguin. But in this case there is the very interesting problem of joining the front limbs and the wings through the scapula and coracoid bones. The documentary base are the skeletons of a seal, bat, crocodile, and chicken, taken from comparative anatomy manuals. I still don't have the flayed version, as you see, I am proceeding from the bones, to the meat, then the skin (When you eat fried chicken is just the opposite).

Tomorrow I'll start working in my final. I hope I can make it in time.

Is this enough for a final? I just omitted the facial muscles.

Smirtouille: Reviewing the entries for the contest I see tha I've run into a bit of evolutionary convergence with your design, both being water dwelling and a bit cetacean in nature. I hope it isn't a problem. I could alter the design to a more standard flying creature if you feel there is. I don't know how this goes around here; I'm an absolute newbie.

                    BTW: Impressive artwork!

Work in progress. I think I'm going to make it in time. Lots still to be done, though.
