Photoshop and painter are lagging
07-07-2011, 10:03 PM
I'll describe my problem as posible and clear.
Whenever i start a new project in Photoshop with resolution higher than 2000px*2000px (300dpi),take some large (200px+) brush (with simple texture) and start to paint in single layer, photoshop start to lag. I make stroke, than i can watch how it draws (takes like a second or two). Same with painter.
Sounds like my hardware can't take it but it's weird because it is not so bad.
- Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 @2.5Ghz
- 6Gb of RAM (800Mhz)
- Ati Radeon HD 4870
- motherboard: GIGABYTE ep45 ds4
- power: Corsair 620W
- Windows 7
- Photoshop CS 5
- Corel Painter 12
If i try to push it: 4000*4000px @300dpi and use brush bigger than 400px, is CPU usage still under 60% and there is still 3.5Gb RAM avaible.
So any idea, what could cause that lag?
Big thanks in advance!

Try adding your virtual memory. You can go to the computer desktop properties and set a higher virtual memory. Also clear temp, cookies, prefetch files, and run a CCleaner to clear the junk files. After all this see how the system reacts
