Default Should I get an iPad or repair my laptop?

Should I get an iPad or repair my laptop?
I have a 2007 MacBook pro that died on my last week. It is past the warranty period and has a faulty logic board that can be replaced for $650. I am an engineering student in college and do most of my work on my iMac, so I really only need word processing on it. I did use matlab and autocad on it, but since I have them on my desktop, it's not absolutely necessary I have it on my laptop. I really just need to type notes in class. I would definitely get the keyboard for the ipad too. My dad works for apple so I can get a 25% discount on an iPad or another MacBook. Will an iPad suffice for what I need it for, should I fix my MacBook pro, or should I get the new 13" MacBook pro?

It's a hard call, because if you're like me the minute you think you don't need a portable workstation is the minute you find yourself on a trip needing one. I would probably get the MacBook repaired and then sell it on eBay for money to put towards a new MacBook or a new MacBook and iPad2.

The iPad looks awesome! It's just like holding a book where you can surf the web, play games, read e-books, watch movies and a lot more. But I don't really think it's meant to replace a laptop. It can't even multi-task, read and edit documents (which is really important in a laptop), it doesn't support flash player (you can't play flash games on the net or watch youtube videos directly from the built-in browser) So I guess it's more of an addition.

Screw ipad, get a Xoom 2 or Galaxy Tab 10.1. Can't believe people are still giving apple money for those things. By going Android at least you'll be able to use the Adobe Touch apps like Photoshop Touch.
