Depends on my mood. Usually I need music (sometimes a movie instead, or have a movie playing silently in my screen behind the Photoshop/Painter working area while playing music, which is insane, I know; this only happens when I'm up against the wall and desperate).
I listen to a whole bunch of genres and phases that come and go.... like right now it's neoclassical/baroque inspired music + a smattering of industrial -_-;;;. Currently it's : Vivaldi, Apocalyptica, Emilie Autumn, Rasputina, Ghost in the Shell SAC/2nd Gig soundtrack, Angelspit, Front 242 and Rhapsody. |

I mainly listen to classical/new age music, mainly stuff by Terry Oldfield, Steven Halpern, David Arkenstone, and especially Deuter. It really helps me get into a relaxed mood to make art, and also sounds really good too. I do throw in some jazz and dance music when I need a more funky beat, but the New Age/classical stuff is what really does it for me.

There is a cheap trick to avoid the musicloop. I listen to long tracks that get me into the vibe but I do not loop my soundtracks. because then I dont even notice the music doesnt play anymore
btw I love Phantasy star IV tracks XD |

With me it also depends on the project I'm working on. Today I have some spare time so I'm working on Dominance War. I'm doing war machines at the moment. So I'm listening to something heavy and thunderous:Metallica, the Black album. This mixed with a little AC/DC 'Black Ice' album, which just happens to have a track entitled 'War Machine'.

I used to be like that, I couldnt work unless there was some noise around me. Kept my head spinning.
But I got over that, and now I cant draw unless its really quiet/dark/glowing monitor/hoody/cant see anything but the monitor.. So I kinda HAVE to work at night... when im asleep ![]() Which I dont.. The other time is when im outside in warm weather sitting on top of a mountain.. but then I dont have photoshop..and sketching with pencils isnt enough for me to capture what I need. A photo kills the purpose and I loose the feeling. I'm gonna save up for a TabletPC and then go sketching outdoors.. I hope that will set my art sense on fire again. |

Ha, it always amazes me how my illustrations recently come out so colorful when I'm listening to Lustmord, Massacre and Nils Petter Molvaer. Guess when I'll have to draw something serious, I'll become a pop music fan.

It depends a lot on my mood, I guess. I listen to a lot of music from bands like: Sigur Ros, Coldplay, Laura Veirs, U2, Blitzen Trapper, and Rogue Wave. I also have a bunch of movie and video game soundtracks that I like to listen to like: Halo, Mass Effect, Braveheart, Gladiator, Star Wars, etc...
Another one of my favorite things to do while I'm working is to listen to books on tape. Personally, I'm a big fan of Sci-Fi and Fantasy novels and I find that it helps me focus to have a book playing in the background. Some of my favorites (Haha, I get to show how geeky I am. Aside from the whole soundtrack thing.) are: Lord of the Rings, The Silmarillion, The Harry Potter Series, The Wheel of Time Series, The Foundation Series, Ender's Game Series, A Song of Ice and Fire Series, and The Inheritance Cycle. |

I've always worked while listening to music, i'd say its a much a drug as it brings inspiration....i don't think i could function without it frankly.
I could probably list hundreds of bands, but what i listen to highly depends on my mood, the piece i'm working on or many other variables in between. There's a trend though that i tend to follow - which is soundtracks & scores! i can never have too many .Moon (2009) movie score is my new favourite at the moment. |

If my freakin computer fans weren't so loud already I probably would...for painting textures anyway. One of the things that annoys me about 3D is that the technical hurdles constantly rip you away from the creative process so it's almost like you can never get into a "groove" where you can just listen and just be creative even after years of experience.

I hear you mate, Music all the times here. I actually created a blog so I can pop on the playlist widget and listen from there, leave it on shuffle and repeat. I love listening to trip-hop when I'm painting, you should check out Saltillo.
