@Muun: Any skill level is welcome to join.
@Pepperwheel: As far as I know, any medium is accepted.
@manga_wolf: If you followed all of the guidelines, and the entry was on time, try PM'ing icon or naetronic.
@Jaan: Loving the smirk on Red.

Still in the planning stages. Settled on a thumbnail for my Faithful John image.

Muun: We accept all skill levels! We also suggest to check out the helpful links on the first post full of great information for any student to learn from!

Pepperwheel: Nope, it can be any medium, except 3D.

Manga wolf: On the last challenge It was a bit late, but it wasn't posted because it did not follow the instructions given on how to format your painting for the poll. On the first post on the finals there is a .psd with a small frame and text. It's for you to make a detail shot of your image, with your name on it , so it fits properly on the poll. I'm usually the one that makes the polls so just make sure you post your final image alongside that small thumbnail.

      Jaan: Good start.

If I where to say something about it, it's that everything be a reaction to an action. Does the wolf have to lounge so bluntly behind little red riding hood without her even noticing? I can imagine him being sneakier than that...perhaps we can see his silhouette creeping through the forest, or even something as subtle as having Red Riding Hood's eyes look back a little.. just so that we feel like it's a real moment, and not completely suspended in disbelief....because if any of us where in the woods, and there was this big ol' wolf behind us, we would feel it, even if just a little bit. So sell the relationship between the two just a bit better and you'll have an image you'll be happier with!

I would also suggest to really think about your lighting... It's in a dark forest, yet you have warm indoors lighting. Look at pictures of forests at different times of day, and in different conditions, and try to figure out what kind of lighting will be in your picture. Mimic nature and it will pay in dividends!

Laid in the colors...I'm kinda liking the minimal flats so I might just leave it this way...

I wasnt sure if I would join this, but why not, right? Haha.
So, i'm doing Snow White and Rose Red. My own little take on a section of the story!

This is just a sketch I pumped out tonight. I was busy relaxing and stuff, so I didn't start till late, or I would have done a few more. I'll post more later. Lalala

Started working on John. In another layer I'm trying to position the princess. Can't remember how she acted towards John. Going to re-read it really quick to determine the position.

Salin & Icon - Thank you

Okay, I've been going through a my favourite Grimm tales, and I've settled on Snow White (at least for now ). I'm going with the ending scene where the evil queen is presented with the red-hot iron shoes. Below is my composition sketch... I'm not sure if I should get the shoes in there or not, If I do put them in I'm not sure how to get them to look good.. I've done so many sketches of them but none of them look right :/ suggestions anyone?

Alternatively, I might go with a closer crop:

(I'll make sure to try and fix the anatomy in my final image)

                  @ Pepperwheel
I would say that yes, you should try to hint more at the story with the addition of the red hot shoes in the composition. At this point it could be anything with a 'redish glow; that the woman is looking at. And because you are doing the queen, you might want to consider making her look just a little bit aged to show separation that she is NOT Snow White.

Otherwise, looks like a good piece. Maybe just pull back a bit or angle it downward slightly to show the shoes. Make them red-orange to show heat and maybe blur the area around them to suggest heat....or even show them smouldering amongst coals as if they were just swept out of the hearth?

                      Default Sketchin'

I chose the Bearskinner, because I don't think a lot of people had heard of it, just recently read it and loved it. Sketched out my idea, let's see how the final turns out.

                        Default Bearskinner Color

First round of color blocking. Next I'll be adding the details.

More layers and detailing. Still have work to do on the face and definitely the hand and butterflies. It's getting closer. Any suggestions?

                          Default Final???

I think this might be the final. If anyone sees a change that could be made, let me know. Otherwise, I am done!
