Well, I had the same problem with something I was working on.
It was a pretty dark environment and both eraser and soft brushes resulted in banded colours. Then a colleague pointed out that my value space was way too narrow. In practice, say, I was trying to paint a smooth gradient between point A and point B, but the difference in value from the two points wasn't enough. If, for example, A has a value of 7 and B a value of 10 there are only 2 values available between the two points, hence the bands. Your drawing seems pretty dark too, can it be the case? I hope I made sense, it's difficult to explain with no images ![]()
