Welcome to the Creature Planets, the CG HUB challenge of exploring worlds beyond our own, and the different species living within them.

Topic #34 :: March 2nd 2011
Organism: The Muturian Pikos
Planet: Jiid-576

Deadline: Tuesday, March. 15th 2011 - 11:59p.m. [PST]

Yep, we're still on Jiid-576! Exploring relationships between organisms. Here are the organism's details. Follow them to the best of your ability

Bioform Overview
These smallish creatures inhabit the Muturian Forest floors of the planet Jiid-576. They follow the Muturian Strider in search of the discarded fruits that it drops while feeding in the canopy above.

Bio Notes
Type: Herbivorous Grazer
Habitat: Muturian Arid Forest
Status: Least Concern – (Not endangered)
Social: Groups of up to 8
Temperament: Timid
Activity Cycle: Constant
Metabolism: Very Active
Reproductive: Viviparous - litters of 2 young - young cling to mother.

Physiological Notes
Size: Smallish – 4.5 kg
Morphology: Symmetrical - bilateral
Skeletal: Vertebrate
Epidermal:Loose hide with distinctive long patches of fur. Colored brown with white spots.
Limbs: Bipedal - 2 long slender legs. 2 shorter limbs for grasping found food.
Location of Senses: centralized on the body
Primary sense: Smell
Secondary sense: Sight - 4 eyes - two are underdeveloped near the top of the head for spotting predators from above.

Other Notes:
These creatures travel in groups for safety as the forest floor can be a very dangerous place. They are always on the move and so the offspring are known to cling to the mother's body. The group is usually lead by a dominant female. Males tend to break off from the group every so often.

IWCA Requirements – The IWCA wants you to depict a family group of these creatures in their natural habitat. This image must contain 3 or more individuals.

Good Luck! And remember to have fun!

Not very strong. I'd say its about like our moon. - maybe a bit stronger. I'll be back later to make some comments! So far these are all looking great!

Hey everyone! Great work so far! I think you're all of to a great start! Here are a few thoughts:

@ Blindrat - Nice sketch! Also, nice development! I like the girth you've given your critter. You might reconsider the eye on the stomach there. Not to say it can't be further away from where the head is but you might want to think about the bone and muscle structure that would be required for it to be there. Looking forward to more!

@ alben_tan - Nice start! I like that you've done a few studies here. You might try and sketch out a skeleton and some muscle to give your creature a more solid form. Really try and think about those legs forming out of the body. Great work!

@ Didzis - Great progress! I really like that you've been able to have the whole family there. I think the painting needs more work (I don't think you're done yet) Really think about your light source and where it might be coming from. Looking greta so far!

@ Earendel - Nice staging! Love how elegant you've made your critters here. The atmosphere is really great too. You might try and work that tree a bit more. Great start!

@ Mike_Jocelyn - I'm not able to see your image.

@ Santana - Great start! I love how whimsical this is! You might consider making that bush look a little less tree like - I feel as though it's throwing off the scale. Also, these guys eat discarded fruit from up above. Wonderful start! I'm looking forward to more!

Here is a sketchie I was able to do. I'd love to finish something for this. I should have some extra time this week so maybe I can get something out. My thought is that they'd move around similar to a pangolin - so mostly on two legs but here and there they'd use their hands to help out. The pink bushy bit toward the front of the head is nasal hair the creature flickers in and out of it's nose to smell. They would also sit to eat - which would be in the final.

Anyway that's it for now. Great work everyone!

                    Thanks Bryn.
I was struggling a bit with the foreground, so the bit of fogy mossy type surface seemed to offer best outcome. Still got to integrate the little creatures, the lighting, and add the tufts of fur.
