Default Concept Art.. critique and suggestions wanted !

Hi everyone, my name is Sebastian and Iam pretty new to this forum and would like to get more involved.
I am originally a 3D Modeling Artist focusing on environments but recently I discovered Concept art and Mattepainting for me.

Here are 2 of my Last private projects I have been working on. Lava Canyon and Santa's Workshop
I would like to use this tread to get some critique and comments and maybe share ideas for future paintings.

Dope stuff dude. I'm liking both your pieces, however the volcanic photo seems a bit flat. The lava remains the same size throughout the comp, both the main river and the lava flowing into it. Perhaps painting it much larger in the foreground and increasing the size of the lava coming down on the left to make it bigger than the one in the back right.

Other than that, it seems solid man. Keep it up!

        Hey Apacalyrical,
thanks for the suggestions, I am happy you like my work so far. I agree that the vulcano one seems a bit flat. Its a good idea you mentioned with the lava. I was although thinking that i cold have blured the background a bit more and maybe make it a bit less dark.. That would have helped the depth as well..buut next time hahaha.

I hope i find some time the weekend to work on some new stuff! So thanks again for your answer!

Wow, great images! As far as a critique goes, I'd say the lava could have more detail to it, the lava fall could be affecting the surrounding with a warm glow, and maybe having some cooling lava in the foremost area could push the depth even more. For the other one, maybe just a little more emphasis on the pole to draw attention to it being the north pole. They are very convincing as is though.
