New Worlds #7- Lucifer's Throne Room Poll

Please vote for your favorite "Lucifer's Throne Room" (or rooms, I have enabled the multivote). This week I have placed the entrants in the order they entered, rather than alphabetical (because I am lazy). You will have one week for voting. Please do not vote for yourself. Try to consider all the usual art stuff as you assess these works. What about perspective? What about composition? What about lighting? What about color scheme? GlennPearce :: I like this, and I like that your eye immediately falls on Lucifer and his much cherished throne. I think the one thing I would have done with the piece is make it darker, with the colors staying in the highlight areas, and really pop things. Don't be afraid to go solid black and use silhouettes to invoke a mood.

Lake :: Beautiful piece. Nice mood - deep and mysterious with a hint of danger (sounds like I'm talking about wine

) I keep envisioning it on a book cover, which would place the throne dead center on the spine, so it kind of loses points there - Plus, I think a compositional offset to the left or right would have really added a lot.

natzuurjk :: I keep thinking this would work good on a heavy metal cd cover

My only real comment here is to watch your angles; some of your perspective lines on the throne are a little wonky.

Nicole_Cardiff :: Very dramatic. Good centered composition. Make sure, that if you're going to put a figure in the piece, you spend as much time, or a tad more, on them as you do the rest. The lack of attention to the hands and feet really pull away from your composition. Also, it's just begging for some small poor lost soul in the foreground (in shadow).

madpoint :: I like the idea, and basic layout, but you've got some challenges going on here. Not sure if you just didn't have enough time to finish it, but start out with a solid sketch, then paint it. Third image down is a walk through on Todd Lockwood's process for the Spellbound cover - not a landscape, but the principal is essentially the same - you can see how he starts off with the rough, then does a tight drawing, then paints it.

Jameswolf :: Yeah, I'm lookin', but I think you're good

Sweet piece.

Fun round, I'm just surprised that no one went with the obvious play off of "throne."
