    Default A sketchbook (March 23rd, 2013)

    HI!

I cant sleep, so im gonna make a thread here.

I got a sketchbook thread on the go at CA but i figure you cant have to much sites to micromanage with your art now can you!

so for now, i think it'll just end up being more of the same in comparison to that other thread. fine with you? fine with me!

so ill share a bit about myself then ill let the sketches talk.

my name is derek, 25 yrs old, im 3 years into the beginning of my art career, im a east coast canadian who is trying to work on his illustration chops and find some kind of soul satisfaction from my visual art. im finding out that its very much a struggle, mostly a time thing. its so easy to let it be the one who manipulates the strings that are tied to your various body parts and have you do and not do what you really want to do. im very much someone who is prone to this kind of thing, work gets in the way of me wanting to do what i want, life gets in the way as well... girlfriend aggro a bit.. but mostly its my own laziness that gets the best of me and just has me rotting and not learning. so with threads like this, i hope to gain some kind motivation to somehow cut those strings and remove the limits that i have with myself and time.

and with that, ive said what i wanted.

heres just a bit of stuff, this is just the start, more to come!

    thanks for stoppin in!

Just for the record, your shit is nice. Though I assume you're already aware of that. I found your sketchbook on CA about a month ago and wound up saving a couple images for later study and inspiration, which I don't wind up doing too often. They've helped me out a lot, in simple but very key ways.

Thanks a lot for posting, looking forward to more.

shit, that purple guy in the last post is next level. all of your work has a real nice weight and form to it, throwing in some different poses and environments would probably be a good direction to go in but whatever youre doing is working

So, ive been away for awhile.

I havent been drawing for what feels a lot longer than 2 months. alas, from reasons that were unavoidable.

My Father passed away on Dec 17 from Mesothelioma (a rare type of cancer) he was 54.

Since then, and earlier, ive been away from the tablet and PS tools for obvious reasons; taking care of him, being with family, trying to close off financial ties, and rename new ones. its a lot of work, im only 25, and have done a lot of growing up in the last couple weeks let alone the last couple years. because only 2 years ago, my Mother passed away at the same age as Dad from breast cancer. ya, its the pits.

In the end, i think ill make it out of this whole thing with my head still on my shoulders. Because knowing my Parents for the strong and loving people they were, its what they would have wanted. Im still very much passionate about drawing, if not now more than ever. i feel l need to prove myself to them that i can get to that milestone ive set out for myself. to reach my dream in life. ill keep trying, and know that the only way for me to go now is forward.

i do apologize if this is to personal, but i find that sharing, with the internet or anyone at all, is a good way to get things off your chest and be able to take a deep breath for once. Even thought your not really struggling for air, sometimes lifes troubles leave you feeling like your drowning.

Anywho. im now back at work, and able to draw on my own time when im not busy again. so heres my first thing i did back.

it was meant for a silent hill contest.. but i read the contest rules wrong.. so oh well.. my own fault for being a numb nut.

                          more to come soon.

                          Hey Wreck,

first of all - I am very sorry for your loss.
My father having cancer as well, but he's on a good way to get that sh**t out of his lung (after long time bouncing from hospital to home, and the other way around).

Try to use the experience you've got over the last time as a motivation to see things from different perspectives. Sometime it will help.

Your sketchbook is really stunning. I really love your designs and your values.
                          Try to keep em coming!

That's awful. I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't even begin to understand what you're going through emotionally. It's great though that you have something that you have passion for. Dealing with my own problems and some sickness I've found it a life saver to have passion and plans for the future and having goals so I never really have the time to feel too bad. You're an awesome artist and I really hope that you keep working hard. I really want to see you doing these wonderful paintings in the future also.
