The point of sharing sketches and work in progress material is so everyone can learn from each other, receive crits, compliments and improve their skills in a classroom/workshop like environment. There are no teachers and no students per say, but try to offer help to others when possible. Please be open to receiving crits, and paint-overs or mock ups of your work, as we are all here to participate, have fun, learn, grow and enjoy what each week has to offer.” --Mike Corriero

@ Brynn - so i'm assuming this thing flys.. or drifts as you put it.... so more of a floating creature, maybe the weightlessness of the planet??....

    - also the reason i ask is because if its asymmetrical, it might have a tough time flying properly? or maybe i'm wrong, i just can't think of any examples in the real world, other than the flat fish...

I'm just trying to get a better visual before i plunge in.. thanks

@ jlafuente - Nice sketch! Remember to keep it Asymmetrical. there is still lots of time to complete this topic! Glad you're here

@ Santana - That is a good point. However, I'd say that this creature is more "swimming" rather than flying. The atmosphere is very thick, like water - could be thicker. I think just keeping what the odd fin/wing does is key.

        @ ionic - Please do!

@ TwistedKitty - Looks good so far! its a bit hard to tell where things are right now. I know its a sketch so its ok, however, you might try and bring out more of the drawing before you jump into color looking forward to more!

@ rlttdoc - Nice sketches! Love the movement! Remember that this species is a filter feeder so teeth may not be necessary. If you do have them they should be pretty small Looking forward to move development!

This is my scribble - just to warm up

          @Bryan,
Thanks, I agree about the clarity there.

As for your sketch, I like hot it's reminding me a bit of a scientific sketch in ink.

@ rlttdoc - Haha, I suppose it's all taste Although I'm very happy with your choice! Wonderful start! I love the way your handling the color. Later, as you work, try and put some of that background color into the organism with some reflective light. This will make it look like it's really in the atmosphere. Also, remember that this creature is asymmetrical - it looks like it is but keep it in mind to make it apparent. Great work!

Yeah, I actually didn't think that I could start things in the computer - I was trained traditionally and starting using photoshop about 2 1/2 years ago. However, recently I've been doing whatever I can digitally. I just love the way it feels and looks and its good practice. Still, watercolor and pencil have a very special place in my heart

                  Hi another update!

I think that the creature can be finished, i miss only the transparence but i want to try it.

Santana: I try to make your sketch more intresting.
I note that in composition orizzontal or vertical things sometimes are boring; to make a dinamic composition the diagonal is the best.
Try to be more free on the sketches for make alive and real the creature (exagerate a bit sometimes)
Last thing, the use of perspective helps a lot on a composition.

I wish that can be helpful for you
                  Bye
